I fnally got to watch the (enjoyable) re-union vids after hearing so much about them.  It seemed clear to me that the hatchet comment was definitely a joke, although a few people took it to mean something altogether ominous.  Mike often says things in fun, it always amazes me that some people take these things so literally (even if there was a bit of bite in it).  Maybe it's a cultural thing.
Other bits that amused were Al Jardine peeking into shot from time to time having been completely sidelined (wow, he's small), Brian swearing to camera (on the other side of the pond we're pretty used to that - in fact we expect it) and the 'passing the buck' discussion about, "we got tough management".  Does the 'we' refer to his management and Mike's separately, or is this a royal 'we' as in 'I and Melinda'?  Who is really responsible for holding back on our hopes for a proper musical re-union?
Also, they're going to need some mighty big picture hooks for those disc frames... Grin

a diseased bunch of mo'fos if there ever was one… their beauty is so awesome that listening to them at their best is like being in some vast dream cathedral decorated with a thousand gleaming American pop culture icons.

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.
