I was in a debate the other day with some friends. Just how did the Easter Bunny get associated with Easter? Crucifixion, resurrection.....chocolate bunnies, colored eggs. WTF?!

I've tried looking on Wikipedia with no luck.

Uh, I think rabbits and eggs are both symbols of fertility, which is associated with spring.

It´s actually pretty logical:

Jesus died --> he came back --> colored eggs --> bunnies --> eating chocolade

Don´t you see the system behind it?

It's a Pagan Spring festival, appropriated strangely by Christians. Kinda similar to Chistmas.

Not all that strangely. Most Christian holidays were placed on pagan holiday dates in order to facilitate their adoption by the "common people." Or so I was taught as a lad.

Well, Easter was scheduled according to Passover.....   Grin

The church just adjusted an existing holiday to merge the two celebrations.  Christmas was the Christianization of the Saturnalia, which is why it is on December 25.  The only pagan holiday to survive without too much interaction from the church is the modern Halloween.

Is it just the perspective of the photo, or did Charles Shultz have gigantic hands?

Bill Hicks sez on his album "Rant In E Minor":

"They (Australians) celebrate Easter the exact same way we do: commemorating the death and resurrection of Jesus by telling our children a giant bunny rabbit left chocolate eggs in the night. Now, I wonder why we’re f***ed up as a race. Anybody got any idea? You know, I’ve read the Bible. I can’t find the word bunny or chocolate anywhere in the fucking book. Where do they come up with this sh*t? Why not goldfish left Lincoln logs in your sock drawer? As long as you’re making sh*t up - you know - go hog-wild. At least the goldfish with a Lincoln log on its back going across your carpet has some miraculous connotations: 'Mum, today I found a Lincoln log in my sock drawer.' 'That’s the story of Jesus.'"

sh*t's funny!

I thought the Cadbury egg commercial with the clucking rabbit said it well.
