Being a big fan of the MIU album, I was wondering about its earler incarnations as 'Ne album' and 'California Feeling' and realised that theres loads of good late 70s (post loveyou/adultchild) outtkaes that might have made it even better, which share the warm production of MIU (unlike the cold hard production of LA which I hate) . Off the top of my head:
Go and get that girl
Hows a little bit of your sweet lovin
Do Ya (if it had been a BB song)
Its like heaven (ditto)
Almost summer
California FEelin
Santa ana winds
Our team
Winter Symphony

I reckon a few moe to this and you would have had the great late 70s BB double album (which is what LoveYou/AdultChild should have been as well. Can anyone think of some more songs?

I share in your appreciation of MIU, but I don't think there was enough material for a double album. But maybe a more solid single album!

This is what I would've done. 15 Big Ones had 15 songs, Love You had 14, then MIU dipped to only 12 songs. So, the first thing I would do is make MIU 15 songs long. Next thing would be to eliminate the two weakest songs, IMO "Hey Little Tomboy" and "Kona Coast". Then I would insert the stronger "It's Like Heaven", "California Feelin", "Santa Ana Winds", "Our Team", and "Winter Symphony".

Now doesn't that look like a much stronger album? The Beach Boys can be very perplexing, but their song selection for albums has to be the most perplexing...

I like MIU too but not as much as the pre 76 stuff.

That M.I.U. was not a double-album makes me believe in a higher power.

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.
