Brian and Al...together again?

From this morning's "Rock Report":
AL JARDINE TO TEAM UP WITH BRIAN WILSON FOR UPCOMING CHARITY DATES
Founding Beach Boy Al Jardine says that he'll team up with the group's co-founder Brian Wilson for various live dates and maybe even some recording this year. Jardine told LAUNCH that he'll be on hand for some benefits that Wilson has already committed to: ["He's got some charity work this year, apparently he's got some events that he's invited me along to do something, I guess on that level, but not financially or anything like that. It more of a charity work. And then we might do a couple of recordings together, 'cause, y'know he still really enjoys my voice. He thinks I have a good voice."]
Jardine had previously announced that he and Wilson, along with the group's Mike Love and Bruce Johnston, are in the talking stages about teaming up for a reunion show in Britain next fall to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their Pet Sounds album.
Jardine, Wilson, and Love each contributed a new solo track to the recent Beach Boys live hits collection, titled Songs From Here And Back.
There's still no word as to where or when the joint Wilson-Jardine appearances will take place.
So far, Wilson only has two shows booked for the remainder of the year. Wilson's only U.S. date is set for on July 1st in Las Vegas at The Club in the Cannery Casinos. After that, his next show will be on July 23rd at Australia's "Splendor In The Grass Festival" at Belongil Fields at Byron Bay.
Jardine will team up with original Beach Boys guitarist David Marks along with Dean Torrence of Jan & Dean for the "Cruisin' With The Legends Of Surf Music" cruise, set for October 2nd through 6th.

Until I hear Brian Wilson's camp release a statement saying the same thing, I'm not buying.

That would be great though, I wouldn't mind hearing Al and Brian do some stuff.

OK, but FYI...I had my tickets purchased for Brian at the Cannery in Vegas DAYS before there was any "official" mention on his website.

My point is this -- Al made comments about that PS reunion show in England, and Brian's camp's reaction was "He wasn't talking to us -- we aren't interested." I suspect Al is talking a big talk but I don't necessarily believe that Brian is reciprocating.

Wouldn't it be cool? Al & Brian together on stage would be more Beach Boys than the Beach Boys group!

Imagine if they did the entire "Friends" album.
On the other hand, they could do the entire "MIU" album (just kidding).
"Friends" would be cool.

It's a news sheet for radio DJs. I read it on a St. Louis' radio station's website. Apparently there's a sound bite of Al talking about this too, for radio stations.

Yep. So who knows...but apparently there is a sound bite of Al talking about this, just like there was for the London "Pet Sounds" reunion show. So at least Al is talking about it.

Well I don't see how to listen to it. Do you have a direct link? And is the Reunion-clip also still up?

No I've never been able to listen to these things, but there is a "sound cue" in the scripts, which I'm guessing if for DJs to read around the playing of the soundbites, which they evidently don't post to the website. And I think these "reports" are only up for a day, then they're gone.

It would interesting to hear them together because back in the day, Al's voice was the closest, and at times a dead ringer, for Brian's voice. Listen to the end of the Back Home (Sunflower era) demo on Get the Boot - Al and Brian are singing together and it sounds like Brian alone doubletracked. Since Brian's voice is dodgy these days, having Al sing some of the songs in Brian's set would be great.

I think Al's just making things up.. I remember an interview with Brian saying he didn't much care for Al's singing voice but that he was a "nice man".
Of course, we can't trust what Brian says anyway.. so now there's two people not to be believed.

Didnīt Al say in an interview that he isnīt allowed to talk to Brian on the phone? And then didnīt he say in another interview that they just had a nice conversation on the phone??!? Looks like Brian got some competition in "making confusing statements".

Al said this on the BBC-Documentary and after that Brian's people seem to have given an "ok". And they also talked on the Landmark dedication (although Al wasn't allowed to talk to Brian, brian just waved Al to his side and started talking, afaik).

That troubles me a little bit. So itīs actually true that Brianīs people tell him to whom he is allowed to talk to? Sounds creepy. Do you KNOW that or do you guess it?

No, they didn't tell Brian not to talk to Al, they told Al not to talk to brian. I heard that, but I don't know how much truth lies in there...

Anybody who's famous has folks around them who restrict access. Would you want to have just anybody be able to call you up, drop by the house, etc? Come on. And Brian apparently still had the sway to wave Al over and talk to him at the dedication -- so how is that restricted?.

Brian Wilson has a severe, in some senses life threateing mental illness and a long history of making choices that are self destructive; it would not surprise me if extreme measures are taken to restrict his 'choices' in some aspects of his life by the people who love and care about him, i.e., his wife, his conservator, his manager, Melinda.

Al Jardine is not just anybody, he's an old friend from Brian's high school days. Granted, they have a history with the Beach Boys that might include some negative things. But it is really creepy if there are people around Brian that told Al not to approach Brian, particularly at a joint appearance for a Beach Boys landmark dedication. Al is not a second-class citizen when it comes to the history of the band, and at least he showed up for the dedication, which is more than you can say for Mike Love. I'm not sure if I buy that, though. I'm sure Brian is more than capable of telling Al to buzz off if he doesn't want to talk to him. I'd like to see whether these statements by Al prove true.
