Hey!  I was going through my files and I found something pretty cool.  Around the time Mike Nesmith was mixing the JUSTUS album, a friend of mine was hired to be Mikes intern for the summer.  I begged him to snag some sort of memento for me.  He ended up getting a copy of Mikes proposal for a Monkees movie that he would write and direct. It's called "Monkees Weekly World News Movie" and it's a 5 page treatment along with a bunch of photocopies of Weekly World News articles.
Anyway, that's my find of the week.

Cool find - obviously, the band DID get to work on a new film project, albeit the made-for-TV 'Monkees Special' that was an updated rehash of the original series, but a full length Monkees movie WOULD have been so great ! Shame they barely talk to each other now ... and its just another 'could-have-been' in the Monkee archives ...

When the 4 original Monkees got together for their 30th anniversary I missed it because I hadn't discovered them yet. Any chance Mike, Mickey Peter and Davy will play some shows together? Maybe to promote these new re-releases?

By the way, do these guys get royalties for their albums or did they get screwed out of it and it all goes to Colgems?

Not remotely.

Yep. Rhino owns the entire Monkees enterprise these days.

Surely they at least get songwriters royalties for the songs that they wrote...

Didn't write that many songs, but they sang and performed to some degree on them. So they don't get ANY royalties at all? That sucks.

When I said 'they don't get any royalties at all' I mean't from the albums.

Yeah, I know.
They get plenty of royalties from the many songs they wrote on their albums, as well as mechanical royalties from their performances on record and film.
