Even if you don't know the name, you must have heard  Strangers on the Shore.

Worked with Van Morrison a few years back - and lived to tell the tale.

Acker Bilk! RIP

Man, some of my early four year old or so memories are scrounging through the record collection of my parents HMV Gramophone (both land fill now) - which was comprised of:
- Popcorn and other switched-on smash hits
- James Last's 10,000th or so album
- Pam Ayres Live
- The Wurzels: Combine Harvester
- Mantovani's Greatest Hits
- a light orchestra album with a nude chick on the cover

and Mr Acker Bilk - The Best of...

Great memories - fare thee well AB

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

This makes me sad. Remember playing Strangers on the shore as a young teen in the mid 90's. There's something special about that song. Sad

I was very sad to hear the news , he lived just a few miles from me when I was younger and at Secondary school and met him quite a few times. I was dating a girl from Pensford in the early 1980's and Bernard (Acker) could sometimes be found having a quiet pint in the local pub.

In fact my dad knew him even better , they worked together at Pensford Colliery (a few miles south of Bristol) in the 1950's and had met at various work re-unions in more recent years.

Yep R.I.P Mr Bilk

I believe the year was 1962 .    I was 10.   If memory serves.  first year I had free access to top 40, having only one radio in the house.   I was lucky to acquire a 2 transistor radio on which I devoured every song.    Stranger stands out in my memory and my earliest spiritual connections to music.   So, this man lives on in MY memory.  thanks for the personal account Rob.
