I understand and agree - right now we are merely speculating...

Thread title is a statement of fact. An incorrect one, too, I'll wager, as it makes several unfounded assumptions.

Look at who started the thread.  I'd wager man is taking the piss.

Most likely, yes.

Brian might just be trying out a few new vocal licks and keeping sharp on his performing skills for upcoming higher profile appearances.   Not a time to get rusty.  Just seems to make sense.

Could be. A lot better than having a high profile (for Brian) gig to promote the new album and being rustier than a Ford Pinto.

I intentionally omitted the exact nature of the show last night, just to see what might happen (and to see if anyone remembered). It was a charity fundraising event for the Dreamcatcher Foundation, announced back in mid-September. Brian wasn't the only performer, and it sold out (at CAN$350 a pop !).

Setlist:

California Girls
Dance, Dance, Dance
Catch A Wave
Shut Down
Little Deuce Coupe
Girl Don't Tell Me
In My Room
Surfer Girl
Help Me Rhonda
Darlin'
Do You Wanna Dance
Don't Worry Baby
Do It Again
Sail On Sailor
Wouldn't It Be Nice
Sloop John B
God Only Knows
Good Vibrations
I Get Around
Barbara Ann
Surfin' USA
Fun, Fun, Fun

Nelson subbed for Mikey on drums.

Not trying to stir up crap, but has Mikey played with Brian since he sat in with M+B?

Anyone know if Al was at the Dreamcatcher gig?

They have confirmed Al for the Bridge School benefit shows this weekend.

Not sure about the December show....

Yep. Mikey guested with Mike on the 5th, and played with Brian on the 9th.

On our way through this "backstage" maze, Bruce joined up with the group and said hello, singing "It Never Rains in Southern California" and joking with some of the older ladies. I'm not sure if they knew he was a Beach Boy or simply an enthusiastic elderly gay gentleman.

Doesn't look like Simons. Looks more like "Ike", but I'm not sure it's him either (and I'm not sure if Ike plays bass regularly), nor am I super familiar with what he looks like; I'm just going off of a few YouTube videos. I don't know if he had any Four Freshmen dates booked on the 23rd. Most internet hubs don't let me look at past dates.

I do recall reading that Ike is scheduled for Four Freshmen dates this weekend when Brian will be doing the Bridge School shows with Al. It will be interesting to see who shows up at that gig, and if perhaps Matt Jardine makes a return appearance.

David is the free electron of the BB world - he's here, he's there, he just floats from nucleus to nucleus.

Bret Simons: I'm a little behind the curve, but I don't think he's the BW band bass player any more. Looks like Bob's back pretty permanently.

Now, because I'm a picky SOB, if I'd been daft enough to fly over and make the gig, I'd be suing the collective ass of the venue for lying in the write up. Tracks from his new album ? I don't see any. Do you ?

False advertising, sirrah. False advertising, and I will have satisfaction.

It's a solid GH set, but the first show in the NPP tour ? My sides, they are splitting.  Grin

False advertising? Er?

Some of us may have been hoping for some new songs, but who was lying? I can't seem to find any mention of new tracks on the BW.com blurb or on Hard Rock's site.

You're confusing it with the Vegas Soundstage recording, right? I think you jumped the gun a bit on the split sides cackling over... what, a warmup gig? The blurbs for that one do mention new songs from the upcoming album. The one I'll be flying over to attend and not suing anyone over. With Brandt as my witness, I think I'll have my satisfaction.

I think he may be confusing it with the first post of this thread that said it was the first show of the tour, when no mention of that was ever made.

Yeah, but the first post was hardly "False advertising." The advertising for the gig made no mention of new songs. That's next week. I think he's just flat out wrong. Kind of goofy to crow over split sides and imaginary lawsuits when you're completely wrong.

Whereas if the Venetian gig didn't feature new songs, I would make a series of sad faces... since it was mentioned in the advertising.

No, I'm not - the blurb on the venue's site stated that Brian would be performing tracks from his forthcoming album.
