1. What do your significant others think of your BB obsession?     Mine is amazed at the amount of money and time I spend collecting but not judgemental.

2. Do they dig the BB?     She didn't take them seriously until she heard the 72-74 "serious artist" stuff.

3. Do they now hate the BB because of your obsession?       Quite the opposite...we too went to the June 8 2012 C50 show.

4. If they dig, what album do they like best?      In proper order I think: In Concert, CATP, Holland, Surf's Up, LA Light, Wild Honey

1). She's as obsessed as I am, as is our 7 year old daughter
2).See above. When we first started dating, she didn't like them because she only knew the early stuff and Full House, and the guest stint on Home Improvement had just recently happened. One listen to the PS boxed set she got me for Christmas of 97 set that record straight. We went to the C50 show on 8 June 2012, as well.
3). Only member she dislikes is Bruce, and nothing to do with my obsession.
4). 3-way tie between Friends, Holland, and Sunflower.

My significant others are the Beach Boys.  I would like to think they rather are fond of the group's work.

she has been with me to every BB/BW show  for nearly 4 decades.   She has become quite adept at connecting us with members and obtaining autographs.    I am one lucky BB fan to have such a spouse.   Many years ago, she and her sister managed to follow ML onto a tour bus  after a show.  Said Mike was a little flabergasted but was cordial as he escorted them off board.  Inthink Bruce  actually remembers her from a number of meetings.  Her wallpaper on her computer is a pic of her hanging with Scotty and Cowsill at a Starbucks  prior to a show.  she approached BW and got an autograph just as a show was wrapping up.   She has gifted us with numerous comps and boxes.   Best of all, she is almost always willing to listen to me talk endlessly about the BeachBoys.   We both love visiting Big Sur and she is always on the look out for AJ. she is always ready to meet my online beachboys friends in person whenever the occasion arises.    It's been a good run.

She is accepting of my obsession and finds it enduring, but I've yet to completely convince her of their greatness. But then, she doesn't really have any interest in music full stop... She enjoyed CD 3 of MIC, she thought Smiley Smile was 'so odd', she hated Sherry She Needs Me - 'so irritating, it sounds all breathy' (no, me neither...) and she's letting me play Forever at our wedding next year, a song she absolutely loves. She also really dug POB.

My ex loved them. She took the piss at first, but I made her compilation tape full of ballads and she was in tears listening to it. 'Baby Blue' became Our Song. Alas, she was also a cheating cow... Hence the ex factor.

My girlfriend understands the obsession, because she's just as obsessed with Pearl Jam as I am with The Beach Boys. She's a casual Beach Boys fan, she has Pet Sounds, the Sunflower/Surf's Up 2fer and 20 Golden Greats in her own collection.

My fave place to go is the River Inn in Big Sur.  I met Al having breakfast there in the lodge in 2004 right around Christmas time.  He was very nice to talk to.

1. What do your significant others think of your BB obsession?

My SO shares in it to some degree. (By some degree I mean the person in question won't listen to anything post-Holland except for a few tracks off TWGMTR.)

Quote
2. Do they dig the BB?

Yup. Longer than I have, actually.

Quote
3. Do they now hate the BB because of your obsession?

Depends on what you mean by "hate the BB." If you mean the BB as music, then no. And again, my SO likes the stuff up through Holland but after that, pretty much out of the question, although my SO has grown to like "Let Us Go On This Way" to a degree but generally avoids The Beach Boys Love You because she knows the story behind it and can't get past that.

If you mean "hate the BB" as in "hate them as people," that could be another story. My "SO," as you say, and I were talking about the recent Foskett interview in which he explains why he quit the Brian camp. I mentioned how I wonder how much of it is actually stuff that goes beyond the article, including a rumor I had heard from one person. My "SO" said, "As you know, the Beach Boys are like a large rock in your garden, and when you turn it over there are all kinds of worms and other disgusting crawly things underneath." (Case in point: Carl's response to when someone asked him for his opinion on the trashy Heroes And Villains book: "It doesn't even scratch the surface.")

Quote
4. If they dig, what album do they like best?

Pet Sounds, of course.

1. What do your significant others think of your BB obsession?     My wife is fine with it, and to a lesser extent shares it.

2. Do they dig the BB?     Yes, I turned her on to them.

3. Do they now hate the BB because of your obsession?       Nope.

4. If they dig, what album do they like best?      Pet Sounds.  Other non-PS tunes she loves include "Vega-Tables," "Til I Die," and "Heroes and Villains."
She loves the "crazy" BW stuff and thinks "Drip Drop" is the greatest recording in the history of mankind (next to the video version of "I'm Bugged At My Old Man" where BW goes into a coughing fit).

We went to see the 50th reunion show together when the BBs came to DFW.  We were pretty much the only two people in the center lower balcony to stand up for the duration of H&V.  If you happened to see us, hello!

When I met my future and present wife of 42 years, 3 months and 23 days in high school in 1967 in CA, she figured out I was a BB fan very quickly, might have had something to do with the haircut and the guitar, I don't know, and has been along for the ride ever since.  Now I must say I suspect she probably would not have me start every other conversation with something about the band or one of the members, but she does like the music from all eras and did buy me a ticket for the C50 tour stop in Las Vegas for my 62nd Birthday (after which it was safe to move back to our house in Texas, where she gave me free rein to re-install and expand my "BB corner" on the walls in the front room around the piano). She became a serious San Francisco Giants fan early on as well (saw the writing on the wall for that one, too). So I'm happy for all kinds of reasons.

My girlfriend didnt know anything before but now loves them! She's gone with me to the C50 show in Montreal, Mike & Bruce in the shitty venue last year and to see Brian & Al & Jeff Beck in Toronto also last year. She loves the early stuff, specially songs like I get around and California Girls, but more and more she's getting the post PS stuff.

She does think that my obsession is at times a bit too much (like going to Toronto to watch the Love & Mercy premiere) but she supports me.

Her fav BB is Al, she thinks he's cute in a sort of old gnome type of way. She likes Brian and after hearing his story from me (over and over again) she has a lot of respect for him. But she prefers Mike as a frontman. Dont think she knows who Bruce is...mmm...

Anyways I'm lucky, my dementia has a cool, loving and supportive significant other  Smiley

Schiaffino, I too was at the C50 Montreal show. If you saw an enthusiastic guy enjoying the show with his wife sound asleep in the seat next to him...that was me. I don't think I need to explain how my wife feels about the Beach Boys.

My wife came home that evening in tears. I freaked. "What is it, what is it?!!"
She had just heard on the car radio that Carl had died.
When she married me, she married the Beach boys too.

My girlfriend is pretty neutral toward Beach Boys music.  She doesn't particularly like or dislike them, but she does respect my obsession with them.  She's more into current pop music.

A few weeks ago she sat down next to me while I was watching "An American Band".  She found a lot of the late 60s/early 70s video very amusing, and told me they looked like freaks!  She thought Dennis was a cutie, though.

There's hope.....

1. What do your significant others think of your BB obsession?     She doesn't quite understand why I'm so into them, but she's supportive of it. I love it, so she helps me love it (she bought me the TSS box as a wedding present!). And she got me MIC for my birthday. Smiley

2. Do they dig the BB?     She loves "Pet Sounds" and likes some songs here and there. Doesn't like the pre-1965 stuff much, or most of the post-1972 stuff. She did enjoy "Isn't It Time," though.

3. Do they now hate the BB because of your obsession?       It's not hate, but she' s definitely hit her limit on seeing BW live. She's seen him twice (I've seen him four times), and she's quite content to never see him again.

4. If they dig, what album do they like best?      "Pet Sounds" would certainly be tops for her. She's also enjoyed a lot of the stuff on "Wild Honey" and a good chunk of "Sunflower." I'll take it. Smiley

My wife of 18 years is my partner in crime regarding our BB obsession. Actually, the concerts are the center of our vacations and brief getaways. We usually go "all out" at the shows and take in the restaurants and local attractions of the cities we visit.

My significant other has used the unforgivable word 'chirruping' to describe the BBs' singing (but did come with me to Wembley).

1. She doesn't understand my obsession particularly when I am listening to multiple instrumental takes of songs from sessions or alternate mixes. " Didn't you just play that?"

2. No she doesn't dig the Beach Boys because she says I play them too much and she's sick of them.

3. Yes she now pretty much hates them and thanks me whenever we're in my car for not playing them.

4. Holland is probably the one album she says she likes, especially Sail on Sailor.

1. What do your significant others think of your BB obsession?     She's fine with it. May sigh when I'm listening to a session of Good Vibrations and she starts to sing then realizes it's just the backing track. She loves when I call her Darlin. I can Hear Music is "our song," and she wants to use Where I Belong for our wedding. She's been with me to a C50 show and a BAD show. She was definitely a fan before I met her, nothing past 66 or so though.

2. Do they dig the BB?     Oops, yep. Guess I replied to this already.

3. Do they now hate the BB because of your obsession?       Nope, but I've had past girlfriends say that when they hear the BB, they instantly think of me...I don't know if that's a good thing or not. ;)

4. If they dig, what album do they like best?      She has the following on vinyl: Pet Sounds, Endless Summer, BB85, and Wild Honey. She's a BIG fan of Wild Honey!
