It's too bad that Peter Lorre got typecast in the horror genre for the later part of his career, because he really was a fine actor. He could be menacing, creepy or comical. I have the box set of the Mr. Moto series and his performances in those were nicely understated without any of the stereotyping the Charlie Chan series had. The only time Moto seems stereotypically Japanese is when he's "playing' the part for his own ends.
Glad to see his career is getting some recognition.
