We know about the version of Surf's Up used on the original CBS cds, the GV Boxset. This version had "bleed-through" from some other track that was wiped, or from another tape that was playing while this was dubbed etc. And I still think i hear some of that even on the newer versions.
The reason I am posting here about this known issue is tonight, I pulled out my 1971 AMPEX cassette for Surf's Up. It still sounds great, compared to the ones Warner's would manufacture for themselves later. This one was sturdy, and the tape sounds excellent. Well, I put my headphones on to listen to Surf's Up, and I will damned it there wasn't bleed-through on this version as well, from 1971. I don't know what the cassette master was copied from, but it makes me wonder if the cassette master was later used for the Caribou CDs. Just a thought......
It'd be nice when you post like this, to include a picture of your item
