Just saw the James Brown biopic Get On Up today. There's a scene where Brown is walking backstage at the TAMI show and passes by a dressing room with a group of young guys wearing Pendletons -- not the historically accurate striped shirts -- rehearsing. "Carl" holding a red guitar -- and it looked like another of the guys was supposed to be David, rather than Al. Interesting to see the guys show up in someone else's story. Jan & Dean also show up in the period footage.

I'm always a bit skeptical about biopics, but this one is quite well done overall. Terrific acting and great music.

I posted the same a day or so ago:
I'm pretty sure the boys show up in Get on Up, the new James Brown biopic.
I don't remember if they say it or not, but I'm pretty sure that one of the sections is on the T.A.M.I. show. James walks down a hall backstage, and if you pay attention, he walks past an open doorway, with probably four of five guys in pendletones - one with a guitar - and they're singing/harmonizing.

I agree that it's a pretty good movie.

I really want to see this movie!  My friend saw it and told me yesterday about this very scene, but she wasn't sure if it was the BB or not (she's never seen the TAMI show).  I asked her if they showed James backing Mick Jagger in a corner threatening, "You're gonna regret you ever came to America" and the Rolling Stones freaking out backstage while he was performing, but she said they didn't show that  Huh

Geez, they couldn't even be bothered to properly represent The Beach Boys during this era. Perhaps it's Jagger's revenge Tongue

Cool. Gotta watch out for that!

Would you mind giving the thread a more significant title, though? Tongue For future reference and stuff.

I'm not sure why the thread title changed -- it was longer and more descriptive. It just seemed to change on its own.

I tried to fix it, we'll see if it lasts.

I don't what's wrong with you guys, but i clearly see Glen Campbell, Carl, Dennis/Alan/DavidMarks, and Jack Black. They were in the original line-up weren't they? Before the all left for dental school?

They play such a minute part in the movie that their resemblance is almost entirely irrelevant.
They're shown off in the background for a second or two, blink and you'll miss it.

1964. Striped Shirts. Brian. Dennis. Carl. Mike. Al. TAMI Show. Not that difficult.

Compare this to the reactions posted in the discussion about the upcoming Brian Wilson biopic when behind-the-scenes photos were posted of a beach scene showing a car.  Wink

Here is what doesn't make sense. Whether the "Beach Boys" in this James Brown film are on screen for 3 seconds or 15 minutes, the wardrobe dept. and set designers went through the trouble of outfitting them in Pendleton shirts, Chinos/khakis, and tennies...they had some sort of historical visual accuracy in mind, right? If this were depicting the TAMI Show, the video exists and has been screened hundreds of times in nearly every rock documentary for decades, and the Boys are shown wearing striped shirts. Do a Google search of the Beach Boys on stage in 1964...striped shirts. Ed Sullivan...striped shirts. You get the point.  Grin

If you as a costume designer went that far for accuracy to suit them up in Pendleton shirts and canvas tennies, why not do the striped shirts? There has to be a reason.
