Isn't this just the "Survivor" negativity all over again? With all due respect for your efforts, GM, all i can do is point out that "the percy sledge" is "When A Man Loves A Woman".

you are right, of course. i did a search for least favorite track and nothing came up. i think my list actually points out the strength of the bb's recorded legacy, usually no more than one clunker per album. how many bands can you say that about?

Mess of Help, really? That's quite a brilliant song as far as I'm concerned. Some quirky production choices and all the better for it.

surfin' usa - honky tonk

Practiced a lot of guitar against that and the other instrumentals 50 years ago.  It worked, too. I like those instrumentals.  Also, I wouldn't count the bull session-type tracks as songs for consideration here. (I think they're kind of fun, anyway.)

What the hell, I'll partake. Sounds like a fun and quick exercise. Here we go...

My Least Favorite 'Track' (not necessarily 'song') from each Beach Boys album by the unlegendary and unfamous Mike Garneau...

SURFER GIRL: Boogie Woodie
LITTLE DEUCE COUPE: Cherry, Cherry Coupe
SHUT DOWN, VOLUME 2: "Cassius" Love vs. "Sonny" Wilson
ALL SUMMER LONG: Our Favorite Recording Sessions
CHRISTMAS ALBUM: Frosty The Snowman
CONCERT: Long Tall Texan (double yuck!!)
TODAY!: Bull Session With "Big Daddy"
SUMMER DAYS (AND SUMMER NIGHTS!!): I'm Bugged At My Old Man
PARTY: The Times They Are A-Changin'
PET SOUNDS: You Still Believe In Me
SMILE: Gee
SMILEY SMILE: Gettin' Hungry
WILD HONEY: I Was Made To Love Her
FRIENDS: When A Man Needs A Woman

Now take all of these songs and make a CDR mix and give it to your worst enemy as a Xmas gift. Lol, just kidding of course. I like lots of the songs listed here.

More than just a rip-off. Brian had co-produced The Honeys' "Surfin' Down The Swanee River" earller in '63 and he or someone else clearly saw its potential (with a further change of lyrics) for inclusion on Surfer Girl. With thanks to AGD for confirmation of the chronology and for the co-production bit (http://www.esquarterly.com/bellagio/1963.html).

I see there's some chat about it here: http://smileysmile.net/board/index.php?action=printpage;topic=7229.0

Remove the smiley, I love nearly every song off your list.

Seeing you like "Tears in the Morning", a special mouldy cheese coated heavily with sugar, think I was right, after all, drawing you in pink.

It's not that bad, but it's no favourite. At My Window's a lot worse

A lot? How? It's still Bruce on lead with others on harmonies. Same as in "Tears", albeit with a less dramatic arrangement.

I just think that At My Window isn't a very good song, and Tears isn't a very bad song
