From the list I would go with the Ramones. Outside the list I would say the Dropkick Murphys.
Never considered Jonathan Richman/Modern Lovers punk but Roadrunner is one of the best Rock 'n Roll songs ever.

The ramones were so great cuz all their best tunes drew from the beach boys: oh oh I love her so, sheena is a punk rocker, rockaway beach, shes the one, rockNroll high school, rockNroll radio, in the park, touring, go lil camaro go etc....same goes for the other great bands that followed suit:: the queers, travoltas etc..

Those bands were expressed BBs fans as well, with both the Ramones and The Queers recording BBs covers.

No it's supposed to sound like that. It's a raw album, and that's one of the reasons why it kicks so much ass. Punk always sounds better lo-fi imho.

yes absolutely. And the Ramones are big fans of The Beach Boys and were deeply influenced by them.it is much more than a coincidence that these bands are discussed together. David marks has made clear The Beach Boys created a trucking punk sound and the Ramones certainly picked up on it.

I asked since there's a great number of differently produced punk albums. D'uh. Even the sophomore Damned record sounds different. Anyway, thanks for the answer.

Has anybody heard the latest Damned album "So Who's Paranoid"? Great album. The Damned still got it! Best album since "Strawberries" in my opinion. Captain Sensible...wot a talent!

Earth Wind and Fire...... oh wait....... I thought you said "Funk" Great band! But wrong genre... do we have a Funk thread on this board? I like 70s funk. For that matter, I like Grand Funk too...oops, wrong genre again...

Pure Mania is one of my favorite UK Punk LPs of the 70s. My old band opened for them in 2002. They had the whole place pogoing up a storm! Great band, nice fellas.

I gotta mention this, too... Tonight I was watching a re-run of CHiPS (an episode called Battle Of The Bands). This episode featured some of the funniest punk-exploitation TV stuff from back in the day. Some 'new wavers' get their band's gear stolen from some violent 'punkers' who just happen to be in a band called Pain. Anyway...there's a battle of the bands (which the new wavers win...even beating Ponch who sang 'Celebration Time'...lol). During the battle of the bands this violent punk band Pain beats up the club owner, beats up some people in the audience, they even beat themselves up too...funny sh!t. Quincy had an episode like this too. New Wave = Safe/ Punk = Not Safe. Makes me wanna listen to some real punk...Fear The Record, anyone?

GOING TO SEE THE BUZZCOCKS NEXT WEEK Have fun! The Buzzcocks always deliver. Saw them 4 or 5 times during the 90s, and they kicked ass every time. Pete Shelley & Steve Diggle still got it, man! Not too many of the original 70s punks (other than the Damned) still kickin' it that good regularly. Hope you pogo up a storm! btw, favorite Buzzcocks song is 'Nostalgia'.

______ Right now: Strawberries. Damn fine album (1982). YES! Strawberries is my favorite album by the Damned. Life Goes On by Captain Sensible is pure bliss. What an underrated musician he is. Not a bad song on the entire album too. Stranger On The Town, Generals, Dozen Girls...should've been hits! This is a synth-free album (written on the back sleeve).
