I think he was a great cast for Mike's role, although he was not as skinny as Mike.

I recently saw the guy who played Mike in "Summer Dreams" in some sitcom, and funnily enough he kind of looks like Mike does now. Goatee, white hair, etc.

Your'e right!

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Just saw this news report with behind-the-scenes footage of the movie on youtube:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0maC5bGOSQo

Well, and here's the whole shebang:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tz8WYfIuF9o

And does anyone know what the song is that starts at approx. 1:00:35 and who sings it?
What seems to be the chorus seems to have these lyrics :

"Wasting my life in my time  ...  and it brings me down. And I do everything just to bring one more smile to her face"

I've heard there's a lot of inaccuracies in the movie but I still want to see it. I've only seen clips of it on youtube.

The triumph of The Hickey Script !

This movie is a guilty pleasure for me. I also grew up with the german overdubs.

Karen Lamm had something to do with this film IIRC.

The music is done very good. I don't know exactly who recorded it. But Greenwood wrote about how he got drum lessons for this movie. He also played the Dennis-song in the movie (see below).
Bruce Greenwood is the highight of the movie (which all in all is more about Dennis' time in the group). He gives a wonderful romantic interpretation of the tragic figure Dennis Wilson.
Of course there are quite a few inaccuracies (whoever got the idea that Dennis didn't play/sing on the records?!) and much of the story is missing. But I like this one much better than An American Family. The latter is too much of a nostalgic look with cheesy costumes an all around plastic feel imo. "Summer dreams" at least has the story taken place in a real life situation.

I love the song "Dennis" is playing to Karen, which was written especially for the movie. It is just beautiful and I really could see Dennis writing something like this.

BTW here's the trailer for the movie:

And something I have to ask. In the scene where Dennis picks up Karen, there's a song played in the bar on the radio. Does anyone know which song that is? I heard it once on the radio about ten years ago. I really like it and would love to have it.

An American Family has an advantage over Summer Dreams that is beyond computation, beyond argument. It uses the original recordings.*

What's the other exception besides "I Live For The Sun"?

I'm guessing when the Brian actor sings, while at the piano, "In My Room" and "I Get Around".

Oops... forgot that one.

The other two exceptions are...

"Geronimo Leaps" & the faux-Spector track.

I hear shades of "Holy Man" in that snippet. Part of the verse, part of the "and you can follow" chorus.

Im assuming a movie where the actor has short hair and no facial hair in one scene and the next scene has hair down to his ass and a beard to his stomach either is wearing a wig or took a significant break from filming.

Movie was made well over ten years before "Holy Man" was rediscovered, and in any case, that song wasn't written by anyone with even the vaguest connection with the BB. So, pure coincidence.
