a diseased bunch of mo'fos if there ever was one… their beauty is so awesome that listening to them at their best is like being in some vast dream cathedral decorated with a thousand gleaming American pop culture icons.

- Lester Bangs on The Beach Boys

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

This thread title has an unfortunate error.

And I just corrected it. Thanks. I shouldn't post when I'm overly tired

Start thinking about the songs he co-wrote, not only with King, and you'll be hard pressed to find many other songwriters who accomplished that much. He changed the face of pop music. I'm bummed.

Finding out on this thread for the first time. Hasn't been a good week anyway. Sad to hear this.

BUT...

This man's music has been very uplifting, bringing a lot of joy and influence into my life, that maybe doing a listening session will both be a tribute and an elixir, and maybe that element of millions of anonymous strangers taking some measure of joy combined with a shared experience through something as basic as a song may just be the ultimate tribute for anyone who writes music, when it's all added up.

Gerry Goffin, RIP.

For all of his music, all of the legendary songs we all love, I personally love the songs he wrote (usually with Carole King) that were recorded by the Monkees.

Sometime In The Morning, a truly beautiful song. Same with Take A Giant Step. Pleasant Valley Sunday. Some of the best pop of the 60's.

Listen.  Smiley
