Years ago I went to an artsy puppet show at a gallery in the River North section of downtown Chicago. The music between acts included brief snippets from
Smiley Smile
.
(Probably had to do with 1) the owner of said gallery is a MAJOR Dennis fan -- and is even credited in the POB reissue of 2008 -- and 2) the woman who ran the puppet show was the wife of one Paul Mertens, and 3) Paul Mertens was actually part of the show.
)
I remember River North then, before it became pricey. That's when there were all kinds of performance artists and great weird galleries and nobody had any money. Fun times. He teaches at Roosevelt University.

I was at Target recently and heard Runaway Dancer. Granted, they did have the exclusive with the bonus tracks but still surprised me.

Not the grocery aisle, but I stopped at Barnes & Noble in The Woodlands after church this morning and suddenly realized the song I was humming along with was Runaway Dancer. They played the entire album, followed up by Pablo Cruise.

I saw an RCA promtional LP for the Living Voices/Strings/Jazz/Brass/Guitars that had a version of " I write The Songs" on it, at a house-sale today, but I didn't buy it

Here's a bit of a weird one: while I was on hold on the phone today, I'm Waiting For The Day was playing as hold music.

I guess it's kinda fitting, though

a few days before Xmas I walk into a local 'upscale' tea (loose or bagged) store I'd never been to before, wondering if i'll come across a worthwhile gift for one of my son's girlfriends
playing over their (oldies radio) PA, I suddenly hear
"Loop-de-loop, flip-flop, Santa's got an Airplane...."
I knew immediately I'd find what I was searching for there, and let out a good laugh I'm sure puzzled most around me

Okay, I'll chuck one in.
I was in a mall a few months ago, and started thinking "I'd love to hear The Beach Boys." There was no chance of that happening with the type of easy listening 80s and 90s hits playing.
Right then "Hold On" Wilson Phillips came on, nice and loud.

The Beach Boys had a few in that category as well.

Now that the Christmas music time is over with, I really didn't hear from our boys much! Heard "Little Saint Nick" several times (obviously) and "The Man With All The Toys" just once...at Hershey Park!

And excellent songs at that. Sadly, their songs from that era don't usually get heard on mainstream radio as much as their early stuff. Oh, excepting of course Kokomo.

I'm afraid I was unhappily thinking of Kokomo, Crocodile Rock...
To my taste, Wilson Phillips is a good step up from those.
Except of course that one Carl line in the chorus. I should sample that out and layer it into another song.

On the Sirius XM Underground Garage channel they played Hang On To Your Ego
On their 60s channel, mornings, between songs, can hear covers of BB songs in the background usually as the DJ's talking. The most common played is Lets Go Away for a While. Have also heard In My Room, GOK, Our Prayer, and Surfs Up. On the rare occasions without BB music the most often played is cover of Octopus' Garden.
