I am a vinyl junkie, but still have no clue why these BB releases on or by mfls are so good....

can anyone explain why I need to spend so much on these Lps/Cd's..........

and really!!!    are they any different to what we already have?

is it worth the 2 or 300 bux to get something I already have 6 times over?

Cheers, RickB

It's MFSL (for Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab), not MFLS.

I recommend you read their entry at Wikipedia:

Now there's a perfect re-release label name for older-but-still-young and fresh music... the Don's going to TM it shortly.

MILF records proudly presents: the Brian Wilson Bedroom Tapes, on a 10 LP box set, in perfect analogue.

Compared to MILF, Bear Family sounds like old scratched 78s!!!

well if nobody else is going to answer the QUESTION.

mainly because they are Half-Speed Mastered and pressed on virgin vinyl and the QC is very rigid

But the standard MFSL lp quality is quite good - the UHQR pressings are another story, and a lot more $$$.

you will have to look up the terms I have to cut it short.  Grin

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

Essentially going from experience of their releases, I can only say this:

With regards to the Pet Sounds MoFi CD, even in the version I have 'acquired', it sounds even better than the ever great Mark Linnett stereo mix - the EQ on the track is absolutely perfect, allowing each little nuance to truly become audible even in ways the Pet Sounds Sessions box cannot achieve [the only other PS stereo mix I own]. Equally, this is the greatest version for the dynamic range too - here it is compared to the still very dynamic 2012 remaster from MiC, with both tracks amplified to peak at 0dB for easy comparison:

However, both these things are not factors you are going to notice without significant enough equipment [to an extent]. It doesn't have to be anything spectacular, but obviously the better your audio setup to more you will benefit from these releases.

With regards to Vinyl, I haven't heard any of The Beach Boys releases myself, but I do own the Weezer MoFi catalogue on vinyl, and all 5 of these releases sound incredible, though don't forget the original releases of these would have far more dynamic range compression on them that most Beach Boys releases.

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears, and she's already working on my brain. I only looked in her eyes, but I picked up something I just can't explain. I, I bet I know what she’s like, and I can feel how right she’d be for me. It’s weird how she comes in so strong, and I wonder what she’s picking up from me. I hope it’s good, good, good, good vibrations, yeah!!

I can't speak for the vinyl, but I've got the cd, which was a bit on the spendy side but worth every penny.  I've always found the other issues of stereo PS to be a bit bright on the high side and a little weak on the bass, for my tastes, but the MFSL gets the EQ just right.  Definitely my go-to for Pet Sounds!
