No way is Love Surrounds Me a masterpiece. I find myself skipping it all the time when listening to Bambù and IMO it drags down the LA album as well.

As in the show Survivor, I like to act as though everyone's votes are veiled when I cast my own, so I like the spirit of that--though I s'pose that voting strategically is also in the spirit of Survivor, just in a different way. Please don't spam the thread with too much opinionating (a little is ok  ).... and without further ado... L.A. (Light Album) is the twenty-third studio album by The Beach Boys, released on March 19, 1979. Produced by Bruce Johnston, James William Guercio and the band itself, the album was The Beach Boys' first on CBS Records, and the first to feature contributions from Johnston since his departure from the band in 1972. Johnston was brought in when it became clear that the ailing Brian Wilson was in no fit state to produce the album, and has remained in the band ever since. Oo Lady won't you lie lady won't you vote me off! Darlin' you know it's time to go. (12)  The track with the most votes gets voted off. Angel Come Home. It's a case of a song I really like, but its slickly produced background vocals pull it down a notch. I think I would love this more in virtually any album before it, because I'm not a fan of how the Bruce-produced albums work some of the vocals.

It's an amazing song, brilliantly sung by Dennis, with a lovely sounding backing track - but yeah, those background vocals on the chorus could've been better... |
