What is your favorite Beach Boys album from the touring years?

It's the one you've been waiting for. I have no idea what mine is. I have heard none of these albums in their entirety. I reckon Beach Boys 85' will be the lead in this one.

Post what your favorite is.

I'd include That's Why God Made The Radio. I don't see why not.

And who's the clown who voted for SIP?

For me it's no contest. The 85 album, hands down!  Bow

It's got Maybe I Don't Know, Getcha Back, She Believes In Love Again, I Do Love You, etc. And Maybe I Don't Know is my favourite BB's song of the last 34 years!

Here's how I'd rank it, from least Favourite to my Favourite:

05. Summer In Paradise.

04. Keepin' The Summer Alive.
03. Stars And Stripes Vol. 1. (Though I still doubt if it's a legit BB's album).
02. Still Cruisin'.

01. The Beach Boys.

I didn't include TWGMTR because I knew it would win by a lot and it's really not from the same period from the other albums. I didn't include Pet Sounds or The SMiLE Sessions in any as well.

It's interesting how one's tastes evolve with time. Been a big fan for 23 years, and if I had taken this poll on any given year during those years, I would have chosen summer in paradise. But now KTSA edges it out for me. In the 70s poll, my top two haven't changed for years (L.A. & CATPST), but the others have moved around significantly. For many years, surfs up never even came close to sunflower for me. Now, I like it a considerable but better than sunflower.

1. KTSA
2. SIP
3. Still Cruisin
4. 85
5. Stars and stripes (this has not dated very well)

BB85 is the best of the bad bunch (even if the production is horribly dated).

If Still Cruisin` had been all new songs, or even relatively new, then I may have picked that one.

1. '85
Love it, production, everything.
2. KTSA
Would be the best if they hadn't included School Bell, When Girls Get Together and Endless Harmony.
3. Still Cruisin
Kokomo rules!
4. SIP
5. Stars and stripes
I haven't actually ever listened this one completely. Don't feel like to.

Beach Boys '85 is vastly superior to all the other albums in this list - nothing else here comes close.

Keeping the Summer Alive...

Though I have to admit, Stars and Stripes is growing on me.

Ah, the sh*t Years. I'll go for KTSA on the strength of a couple of songs, just over 85, though one of the best songs, SNJ, is on neither. Seriously, I'd have trouble putting together 12 listenable tracks from these.

85 by miles. Though real slim pickings here. And of course, 85 has Where I Belong, I think the best song by the Boys of the entire 80's.

The title track to KTSA is pretty awful.

For me it has to The Beach Boys '85 in a weak crop.  It has a few legitimately decent songs and for my money I'll take the passable ultra-80's production over the others.  Next up would be Still Cruisin' for having some worthwhile moments in a slight, hodgepodge release.  Keepin' the Summer Alive follows, which is rarely interesting but also rarely offensive.  Stars and Stripes has some very questionable country performances that don't interest at all, but four of the covers are pulled off alright and show some taste.  Lastly, Summer in Paradise may have Lahaina Aloha, but it also has the horrid Summer of Love and several pointless covers.

1. The Beach Boys (1985)
2. Still Cruisin' (1989)
3. Keepin' the Summer Alive (1980)
4. Stars and Stripes Vol. 1 (1996)
5. Summer in Paradise (1992)

And to make matters worse, Mike Love put a live version of Summer in Paradise on MIC.  You mean he likes that song?

The title track to KTSA is pretty awful.

I like the title track. But it was destroyed by the piss-poor production.

That and Endless Harmony are the only decent songs off KTSA. The rest I can completely live without, absolutely awful with some of the worst production ever.

I've listened to the whole album multiple times, doesn't get any better for me. Boring and horrid.

I'm just surprised it's close to the 85 album in terms of votes. To me it isn't even a contest, at all. The 85 album is vastly superior in every way, it doesn't even deserve to be compared to KTSA. The only BB's albums that are worse than KTSA are 15 Big Ones and SIP.

Of course he does. He was still singing it in concert more than 10 years later.  Smiley
