And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

Ah, forgot Girl from the North Country (original) even though a couple of people already mentioned it. Basically for me he could do no wrong up to and including Blonde on Blonde, whether his songs be released or unreleased, though I still haven't heard his first album. Maybe I'll listen now on Spotify.

  2.  The Basement Tapes *

  6.  Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits Vol II
  7.  Blood on the Tracks

  * An idealized Basement Tapes that does not include Band outtakes and adds some essential tunes not on the LP. Overdue.

5 - Forever Young

3 - Spanish Harlem Incident

So great to see this, I was starting to wonder whether it's just me who loves that song a whole lot.

Pretty sure we've done this exact thread somewhere, but it's probably so long ago that it doesn't hurt to revisit to let newer members weigh in, and older ones reconsider. I know my preferences can change daily...

1. Bringing it All Back Home
2. Highway 61 Revisited
3. Blonde on Blonde
4. Love & Theft
5. Blood on the Tracks
6. Basement Tapes
7. John Wesley Harding
8. Tell Tale Signs: Bootleg Series v8
9. The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan
10. Another Side of Bob Dylan

I couldn't even attempt a songs list.

Highway 61 Revisited: Queen Jane Approximately

For me, that is the definite low point of Highway 61 Revisited.

My favorite version of Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flGpGD0ePMM&

Wish I could find an actual file version of it somewhere.

I can't narrow it down to just 10 albums or songs, so I will just mention a few that I have on a lot lately. There's some great stuff on the recent Another Self Portrait, and I keep going back to the songs on Oh Mercy. I might actually prefer that one to the more praised Time Out of Mind. Soundwise, it's tossup, but the songs on Oh Mercy speak to me more than those on TOOM. And it's hard to get enough of that Royal Albert Hall (lol) "bootleg". If a time machine was invented, that's the show I would go back to. And I can never get enough of the much maligned Street Legal (critics! who needs 'em?), especially Changing of the Guards. I have no idea what he is saying in that song, but I can sing the whole thing, all 6 and 1/2 minutes of it without a cheat sheet.

Tough choices, indeed. This is my current list (which I'm sure will change many times throughout today alone) of Bob Dylan's best. Also, some special mentions to "Another Side of Bob Dylan", The Bootleg Series and the songs "Dirge"as well as the classic "Mr. Tambourine Man".
