Not that often a '60s garage-rocker gets his own NY Times obituary but then again, Dick Dodd exemplified garage-rock like few others. The obit notes his tenure with Eddie and the Showmen, one of the bands supporting the BBs at the '63 Hollywood Bowl concert.

is a chronology of the Standells' lengthy career. I'd forgotten that Lowell George was in the band for a few months right before he joined the Mothers of Invention.

RIP, Dick.

In the LA Times they said The Standells only had 1 hit Dirty Water.. WELL not here in California.! They had 4 that I know of..  DW   Sometimes good guys don't wear white   Why pick on me  Riot on the Sunset Strip.. In 60"s every band worth their salt played DW + Good Guys ..Heck we played those songs into the early 70"s.. They were a real good band + good enough to record a live lp..  They had influence back then.. RIP Dickie

Been in 2 bands that played "Dirty Water."  Classic real punk rock.  "Along with the lovers, f#@kers, and thieves."  We 5th graders loved hearing that on the radio.
