I'm sure many of you have seen this before:

http://www.amazon.com/Rockabye-Baby-Lullaby-Renditions-Beach/dp/B000HCPSEO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1382811535&sr=8-1&keywords=rock+a+bye+baby+beach+boys

They're lullaby renditions of Beach Boys' tunes. Beautiful ones, too.

I was just talking to my family about how my brother, when he was a baby, had colic, and the only thing that could calm him was "Broken Lady" on vinyl by the Gatlin Brothers.  And then I had a thought...

Imagine: if we all gave this CD to people with babies, we could potentially grow the next generation of Beach Boys fans.
 Ahhh! (mad scientist)

Now, I say this in jest (and my anecdote doesn't even support the idea, for my brother isn't even a fan of the Gatlin borthers today lol, so it would not by necessity make people become Beach Boys fans), but I do think this CD would be a good way to potentially introduce Beach Boys music to people (of this generation and the next) in a way that is practical.

Unfortunately you can't plan for personal taste.

I try to expose my daughter to as many different types of music as possible, and let her decide what she likes. She's recently graduated from The Spice Girls to The Who.

I think the real thing's pretty good for quietening a baby, anyway, though I'm not sure how much it would influence their future tastes.  That said, this disc's got a great tracklist and I'm liking the previews.  Didn't expect to see Surf's Up on there.

Listened to all 11 samples. Some of it is nice, most of isn't. "Our Prayer" is a totally pointless choice, it lost all of its spiritual power. "You Still Believe In Me" is too beautiful to think any other version can top the original. But then, the album started off & ended on a high note: "Surfer Girl" was never sweeter & Wouldn't It Be Nice is amazing. Somehow it works being slowed down & the synth "ahhh" vocals added some cool church vibe. Very unusual.

Marvellous! Much better than the GOK from above link. I like music boxes & think it's one of the most wonderful inventions, thanks to whoever created it. And thanks to Mr. Manning.
