Its been a while since I did any beach boys covers.. or recording at all.. but you guys inspire me to share.
Slip On Through is an elaborate multitrack affair.  WIBN is folky, acoustic based, brushes on drums, etc.  YSGTM is tripleted piano punk, kinda like early ben folds five.

While we're at it, here are two Andrew WK / Beach boys mashups I made a while ago.  I never finished the In My Room one, but the intro kicks ass.  WK tweeted the dance dance dance mashup Smiley

Finally, a slowed, pitched up, and spaced out remix of warmth of the sun (vocal take i think, don't remember).  For sleeping / crying.  Man oh man I love this song!

This is my first post here btw, this board rocks.  You guys seriously know your 'boys.

thanks zach, and congrats on your 666th post, haha!

i did record and mix them myself, but i was running a lil studio back then.   the triplet insanity of YSGTM was surely worth a try, but i could have played/sung it better.

Awesome covers! Thanks for sharing. I love it when people here have the guts to try to reinvent these iconic songs instead of just recreating them note-for-note. I loved your Wouldn't It Be Nice cover especially. Reminds me a bit of how the Thrills channeled their BB inspiration back in the early 00s.

Oh, and that spaced-out mix of Warmth of the Sun is top-notch!  Smiley

Aw jeez, you're the guy who did the "Party Hard"/"Dance Dance Dance" mashup? Thank you for that. Very, very much.

you're welcome!  glad i could 'add some music to your day'

and thanks, kwan.  i dunno if its 'guts', i just let the songs marinate in my head and they come out differently, i'm not referencing them directly.  i often find note for note covers to be somehow disappointing - uncanny valley, you know - but they are great exercise
