Hey folks!  In going back and updating my SMiLE mixes a few weeks ago, I ended up going through the SMiLE tracking sessions from the boxset and re-assembling the stereo instrumental tracks as they are on either disc 1 or on BWPS and so forth.  And I was really interested in what if that was done for the whole album?

So that's exactly what I did!  And here it is, all the instrumental SMiLE pieces edited together in a completed fashion as they appear on BWPS and/or TSS disc1.

http://www36.zippyshare.com/v/65196245/file.html

Note that it's not entirely instrumentals, as I chose to include some of the backing vocals for fun.  So I guess it's missing all the lead vocals...  this is like a karaoke mix, lol.  But it give you a really good grasp of all the sonics going on behind the vocals, how well made the album was.

Oh also, I excluded Our Prayer (obviously) and just used the Brian demo for the second half of Surf's up (otherwise it would be silence!).

This is probably going to be far more fluid than what i had to throw together for FJFPSS. i shall investigate!

Another fine piece of work. Thank you.
Any chance for a lossless flac option like your 2 new upgrade mixes (both of which are great!)?

Not only does it sound great, but it's a wonderful convience to have instrumental versions all in one convenient place. Excellent work.

Update: Wow! Heroes and Villains! What a revelation! Hearing things I never heard before!

Love the way it is classified as "Christian Gangster Rap" when downloaded into iTunes!

Hey thanks guys for the positive feedback!  Smiley

It is really telling of how this album was made.  What I found interesting is some edits were very awkward because of the simple fact that there was no vocals to overlay and then connect them.  For instance, the verses -> chorus -> verse segues on H&V.  They sound really jarring and unnatural.  But I assure you if you synced this mix up to the album version, the timing is correct and this is how it is on the album.  But what happened was Brian faded the backing track down, and faded up a vocal modulation and his organ overdub: that was what connected these pieces because they didn't fit naturally together!  So here, without it, it's totally jarring (which is why I left the count-ins in, btw).

I will upload flacs as per your request in a day or two.  I am having some computer problems, and both my laptop and my harddrive are going in to be fixed in 30 minutes (that is also the reason for the hold up of my Landlocked reconstruction, sorry).

This compilation really is awesome. Remember how Brian said The Wondermints were better than The Beach Boys? Now that we have this instrumental mix, we just need to wait for humans to evolve their voices a bit further. By 2100, perhaps we will have the greatest Smile of all time!

Someone requested a re-up of this, so I thought I'd post it just in case someone else wanted it as well.
