I noticed a report that Murry sang on "Be Here in the Morning" and found that somewhat remarkable for various reasons...not least that the while the BBs used all kinds of outside instrumentalists, they seem to have seldom brought in outside vocal talent, Dean on "Barbara Ann"notwithstanding.

How often did this happen? Any other prominent examples come to mind?

I remember reading once that Alex Chilton got a call to get his pipes over to Brothers Studios pronto to sing on a BB recording (or words to that  effect...I definitely remember the word "pipes"...and AC is not a bagpipist). Did that ever happen? Maybe he was their first choice for "BHITM"! His voice did sound awfully deep on that early Box Tops stuff.

Marilyn Wilson sang on the 1971 version of Surf's Up, most notably.

sh*t, you guys are quick!

I have to say, by the way, that the choice of Reily for ADITLOAT is so inspired. Does that guy sound like a dying tree, or what?

Still waiting on Chilton...

Audree sings on some of the Hite Morgan sessions, but seem to remember someone said she sang at a later session as well.

We don't have to bring up John Stamos, do we?!

Marilyn is on Its OK, Solar System... tons of stuff. Gary Usher is most likely on Lonely Sea. Double Rock Baptist Choir on That Same Song and River Song. Christine McVie on Love Surrounds Me. Dennis hired a couple of chicks to sing backgrounds on Got to Know the Woman. I have a feeling if I took some time to really think this through there would be like 30 or more examples of outside people on BB's stuff...its not that rare of an occurence.

That's not Nick's girlfriend on County fair...its Dave Marks' aunt Andrea Carlo.

The backing vocals on the second section of TRADER are Carl and Marilyn.... and Marilyn's all over 15 BIG ONES.  I really hear her on "Rock and Roll Music," "That Same Song" and "It's OK."

I think Gerry Beckley is on SAIL ON SAILOR....

I can hear Jack Reiley on the tag to MARCELLA....

I believe I read on C-man's dissertation of "Today" that Marilyn is singing the extra high vocal on "Do You Wanna Dance" - not Brian - and my listening of the vocals isolated plays this out - I had always thought that was Brian letting rip with that big "oh whaaaaaa haaaaa" in the last chorus, but it's Marilyn

Isn't Marilyn featured in "I'm Bugged At My Ol' Man"? I really hear her on the "Darn my dad", "Blew it bad", "Gosh it's dark"... sections...

Or am I completely deaf?  Grin

Edit: To me, it seems like it's Brian's voice on the "wo whaaa haaaa" of Do You Wanna Dance... I think Marilyn never had such a powerful voice...  Sad

I never really listened that hard to the background vocals for the second part of the Trader before, but they are so good. It's also Carl's best lead IMO

There seems to be some folklore that Brian used voices on Pet Sounds other than the band.  I read some source that states Brian used Terry Melcher, among others, in sections where he was dissatisfied with the BBs effort.  I actually doubt this is true because I don't hear any voice that sounds like anyone else.  Anyone else heard this?

Terry DID sing on one "Pet Sounds" session...the tag of "God Only Knows", along with Marilyn and The Boys, but that got mixed out of the original version, but can be heard today on the box sets.

Some girls are singing on the "Smiley" version of "Wonderful"...or it's the Boys on helium...

I think Jack also sang on the "Child" tag of the '71 "Surf' Up"...

Marilyn is on "Long Promised Road"...

Marilyn is on "Beaks Of Eagles", and Diane joins her on "Steamboat", "Funky Pretty", and part of the Fairy Tale.

M and G are also on, I think, "Our Team".

Marilyn is on "Do You Wanna Dance", but Brian does sing a magnificent falsetto there also.

Mentioned on here a while ago, on a few verses of Busy Doin' Nothin' Brian and Marilyn sing the part together.  It sounds almost like double tracking, their voices are so similar.

And Priore mentions in his SMiLE book that the Survivor's filled in a few vocal parts on The Surfer Girl LP when the boys were on tour.  Not sure about the truth of that though...
