I sort of think that the surfers in SoCal 50 years ago were kind of the first counterculture contingent at the time and was sort of an early iteration of the more vocally abrasive type of subculture of skateboarding (think of Lords of Dogtown) and punks in general, in which SoCal seemed like a fertile ground for. The Descendants, Reel Big Fish, NOFX, Goldfinger, Sublime etc were all from Southern California.

Maybe in some way... But I don't think the surfing culture had the nihilism, angst, hatred and political activism. But then again, early Ramones was like early BB's on steroids, so go figure.

nope. no, nada. Surfers are way to laid back. Beach bums.

maybe they started the new age movement, but not punk.

Hey Little Tomboy is creepy. Banging women by the pool is fun and conjures up warm summer thoughts a Beach Boys song should.

The first real punk album of the '70s was:

Love You

It was also the last.

'nuff said on this topic.
