John, if you don't mind: wouldn't it be a good idea to change the title? After all, it's a new book, maybe very important, and I mistakenly thought that this thread referred to the LPs with TSS on them, which have been discussed already. Perhaps others did this too.

American dream that fused middle-class aspiration and mobility with images of youth. Led by dream master Brian Wilson, their music gave voice to a Southern California mythos and compelled an audience across the nation and beyond to live out their own versions of the fantasy.

Myth, dream, fantasy?

In my experience the early 60's S. Cal scene was no dream - Brian and BB's music was instrumental as a catalyst to exaggerate the scene and propel it into the national/world consciousness

I guess Luiz was not there -- ?  Razz

Now, I must go and clean my room.

Hey Little Tomboy is creepy. Banging women by the pool is fun and conjures up warm summer thoughts a Beach Boys song should.

There's an interview with the author here.  Sounds interesting.  I'll buy it, given it's not just a potted history or simply a personal view of the album. as these books can sometimes be.

Many thanks for that.   This Q/A intrigues:

Quote
Who will you be reaching out to during the writing process? Why?
LS: I have been in contact with Van Dyke Parks, and he has already graciously shared some of his insight, perspective, and memories of working with Brian Wilson.

Will we get the slighted, revisionist VDP that's surfaced recently? Will he damn or praise?

Thanks John,

I've been waiting for this one and was worried it'd been dropped from the publishing schedule.

That Tim & Eric painting behind the author proves that this will be a great book.

I believe the writers vary throughout the books, I've only read the Pet Sounds book, which I remember enjoying a lot. They seem to pick out really good albums I'd like to read about, I just never see any of them in bookstores.

Books/albums I'm interested in-

Let it Be
Ok Computer
Piper at the Gates of Dawn
Song Cycle
