A few years ago I did a topic about compiling 'Pet Sounds Vol. 2': a mix cd with Beach Boys songs that aren't on Pet Sounds, but (roughly) sound like they could've been. I thought it might be cool to try this with some other albums too. So the idea is to create a second volume of an excisting Beach Boys album that has pretty much the same "vibe". Because some Beach Boys albums are just so great that once you're done listening to it, you wish that there was a twin album, right?

So how about these?

Feel free to discuss and to add your own mixes!

Pet Sounds Vol. 2
Good Vibrations (energetic, upbeat opener, good replacement for Wouldn't It Be Nice)
She Knows Me Too Well
Kiss Me, Baby
Wonderful
When I Grow Up
Summer Means New Love (#6 on Pet Sounds is also an instrumental)
The Little Girl I Once Knew (logical replacement for Sloop John B)
Time to Get Alone (probably the closest thing to God Only Knows that Brian ever made)
Please Let Me Wonder
From There to Back Again
In the Back of My Mind (logical replacement for I Just Wasn't Made for These Times)
The Nearest Faraway Place (#12 on Pet Sounds is also an instrumental)
Summer's Gone (logical replacement for Caroline No)

Friends Vol. 2
Our Prayer (not really the same vibe as Meant for You, but it's one short, peaceful intro song for another)
Aren't You Glad
Wind Chimes
Country Air
I'd Love Just Once to See You
With Me Tonight
I Went To Sleep
Mama Says
At My Window
Little Pad
Our Sweet Love
Love to Say Dada (mostly instrumental, Hawaiian influences, so it replaces Diamond Head here)
Student Demonstration Time (replacing TM as the album's noisy sore thumb)

I really like this concept and I do the same to an extent on my own playlists.  I'm not sure I'd go for track for track replacement, though.  I envision a playlist of about 24 tracks that includes the original album tracks plus others with similar themes/sound.

Well not exactly the same thing but quite a few of my BB albums have alternative versions on my mp3 player by removing one or two tracks I'm not mad on and replacing them with stuff from the same era that I like more.

Pet Sounds
Replaced Let's Go Away For a While (WHICH I HATE!) with Little Girl I Once Knew.

20/20
Replaced Be With Me and Cotton Fields with Breakaway and Celebrate The News.

Sunflower
Replaced Got To Know The Woman with Good Time. Hoooray, now Sunflower has a proper Brian lead.

Surf's Up
Replaced 'Feet with 4th of July. Naturally I'll be altering this album some more in a few days.

Holland
Nothing removed but We Got Love added.

MIU
No Peggy Sue or Winds of Change, replaced with Our Team.

I'd rather be forced to sleep with Caitlyn Jenner then ever have to listen to NPP again.

I've been waiting for the release of MiC to do something similar, but more a second CD of "bonus tracks", eg, for say "Surfs Up" LP, add

"WIBNTLA" (MiC4),
"4th July" (GVBox),
"Out In The Country" (DAR03)

as well as some other tracks such as

"Don't Go Near The Water" instrumental (MiC6),
"Looking At Tomorrow" earlier mix (DAR02),
"Take A Load Off Your Feet" alt mix (Jnls2),
"'Til I Die" vocals only (GTB1) and alt mix (EH),
plus many potential versions of "Surfs Up".

The possibilities are endless bearing in mind the amount of boots out there - but I'd only include decent sounding options, not a "Purple Chick" like complete approach.

Anybody done something similar?

BTW not been delivered of the box in UK yet.
