To view my video documentation of my Beach Boys collection go to www.youtube.com/justinplank "Someone needs to tell Adrian Baker that imitation isn't innovation." -The Real Beach Boy ~post of the century~ "Well, you reached out to me too, David, and I'd be more than happy to fill Bgas's shoes. You don't need him anyway - some of us have the same items in our collections as he does and we're also much better writers. Spoiled brat....." -Mikie "in this online beach boy community, I've found that you're either correct or corrected. Note: I started typing this hours ago, but had to leave, and came back to finish. Not sure what posts have come in since then. ********** I'm assuming that tracks from ijwmftt are not eligible because they're all remakes of beach boys songs?
Set 1: One for the boys Your imagination She says that she needs me South American What love can do The like in I love you Love and mercy Walkin the line Melt away How could we still be dancin Gettin in over my head The waltz You've got a friend in me The bare necessities On Christmas Day Christmasey That lucky old sun Morning beat Good kind of love Can't wait too long Midnights another day Goin home
Set 2: Orange Crate Art (full album)
Set 3: Brian Wilson presents SMiLE (full album)
Encore 1: Heigh-ho / whistle while you work / yo ho (a pirates life for me) Desert Drive Night time Sunshine Happy days
Encore 2: Rio Grande

Surf City would be a must to give the fans a hit to listen to. Along with a few covers.

First of all, I'd want to hear the complete TLOS live. That's my favorite album from his solo career, although BW88 is right behind it.

Gettin' Hungry too That would require a special guest appearance from Mike Love.

Anyway, here's my list:
The Spirit of Rock and Roll Baby, Let Your Hair Grow Long Walkin' the Line Water Builds Up The Bare Necessities Melt Away The Like in I Love You She Says That She Needs Me Don't Let Her Know Little Children California Roll Live Let Live South American Slightly American Music This Song Wants to Sleep With You Tonight Mexican Girl Dream Angel They Can't Take That Away From Me Night Time Cry Midnight's Another Day Southern California Love and Mercy Nothing But Love Meet Me In My Dreams Tonight
Encore: Desert Drive Love Ya Lay Down Burden He Couldn't Get His Poor Old Body to Move
I admit that I cheated by using some songs that have not been officially released (I also meant for "Don't Let Her Know" and "Desert Drive" to be the Sweet Insanity and Paley Sessions versions, respectively, rather than the Gettin' In Over My Head versions). I think this would actually make for a pretty good concert, though.

Question: would Brian's shows be as popular if he only did solo tunes? Don't get me wrong, it would be cool if he did, but do you think the Beach Boys stuff has something to do with the popularity of his shows?

I would argue that it's all in the same boat, Brian's solo career overlaps with the Beach Boys. After all, arguably his most famous solo venture was the Smile album/tour in '04-'05. This thread is just hypothetical fun. Obviously, the main appeal to see Brian Wilson live is to see him sing the Beach Boys songs, for the general public I mean.

I have to agree. I like some of Brian's solo stuff, but as time goes on (as an album at least) TLOS is the only one I really return to. For Smile I like the Beach Boys versions to hear, though I respect the 2003-4 one very much. Honestly my favorite Brian solo stuff are the songs he produced for others in the sixties or seventies, or early (think 1963-73) vocal contributions to others records.

Hey Little Tomboy is creepy. Banging women by the pool is fun and conjures up warm summer thoughts a Beach Boys song should.

How about Brian and his band playing the entire 1988 album live? There are some great songs there begging to be played by that band instead of the 1000 Synths heard on the album.

I would be far more likely to see a Brian solo show if he played mainly songs from his solo career.

Not in a million years of course. It would appeal to the hardcore but there is a reason why they play all of those 60s songs. Because people love them and because that is when Brian was at his peak.
