Too tough for me.  The problem with this thread is that pre-Pet Sounds is four to five years of music, post-Smile is about forty years (give or take a decade or two worth of hiatuses).  Unless post-Smile means after its official release in 2004, which would make it a lot easier.  Wink

Kiss Me Baby
Let Him Run Wild
The Little Girl I Once Knew

Honorable mention: She Knows Me Too Well

Time To Get Alone
Be With Me
Feel Flows

Honorable mention: All I Wanna Do

Damn...they were a good band...when they were good. I've been staring at this group of songs for 15 minutes, and I truly can't decide pre or post. At least with this particular face-off. Normally, I'm a "post" guy, but......damn.

Don't Worry Baby (Lovely ballad)
Fun, Fun, Fun (as my favorite representation of fun in the sun/car songs)
Kiss Me Baby/The Warmth of the Sun/The Lonely Sea (tie, as foreshadowing Pet Sounds)

Til I Die
Marcella
Life Suite (From There and Back Again, Pacific Coast Highway, Summer's Gone)

1) California Girls - Written and sung by Mike, great record.
2) Surfin USA - Mike made the group internationally famous and loved by the world.
3) Fun Fun Fun - Mike's lyrics flow like butter.

vs.

1) Kokomo -Mike's seminal masterpiece. Unparalleled.
2) Goin' to The Beach - I had to sell a large portion of my belongings to get this from a certain insider back in the day. Never regretted it even for a second. Micheal is the greatest!!
3) Do It Again - Mike saved the Beach Boys with this one.

Are you a troll or just actually that much of a Mike-ista? Not that it's a problem if you are the latter (I've got no problem with Mike myself), it's just rather surprising to see someone that devoted to Mike rather than Brian or the band as a whole.

Ah, another fan! Always nice to find other people who like Mike. But there are a lot on this board, many really. I recently a nice talk with drbeachboy about how good Mike is. nice guy, also a fan Smiley

I would consider myself more of a fan of the whole band with a slight bias towards Brian, but I certainly can appreciate all of the great contributions Mike has made to the band over the years and am sure he's a great guy. And the songs he sang lead on couldn't have been sang better by any other members or non-members of the band. Smiley
After Carl passed away, for years I was a "No Wilson's, no Beach Boys" type of fan. Took me 9 years until I finally went to a Mike & Bruce show. Finally, I realized that they are as much a business as they are artists. I figure if they (BRI) are OK with it, then why shouldn't I be too. Though, through all that has transpired over past 14 plus years, I am a Beach Boys fan, first and foremost.

The Brianista Prayer

Oh Brian
Thou Art In Hawthorne,
Harmonied Be Thy name
Your Kingdom Come,
Your Steak Well Done,
On Stage As It Is In Studio,
Give Us This Day, Our Shortenin' Bread
And Forgive Us Our Bootlegs,
As We Also Have Forgiven Our Wife And Managers,
And Lead Us Not Into Kokomo,
But Deliver Us From Mike Love.
Amen.  ---hypehat

Don't Worry Baby
In My Room
Surfer Girl

For me, those three symbolize the youth, innocence and the beautiful melancholy of Brian's early works. All of them sung by him in his soaring falsetto and with killer intros.

1. Surfer Girl
2. Don't Worry Baby
3. Please Let Me Wonder

vs.

1. 'Til I Die
2. Darlin'
3. Slip On Through

I'd go with the first three, barely.

I am astounded that people pick songs from TWGMTR amongst their 3 top post-Smile songs. Of all the music they recorded after Smile those were far from the most likely songs to make that list  Smiley

It is the one that`s freshest in the memory. Ask people in a few years and it may not figure so well.

My picks:

1, Kiss Me Baby
2, I Get Around
3, All Summer Long

1, This Whole World
2, All I Wanna Do
3, All This is That

That's just, like, your opinion, man. Wink

Personally, I think PCH is one of the best Beach Boys songs period - not because it's "fresh", but because it embodies everything I love in a song: the composition, vocals, lyrics, instrumentals are all beautiful and well done.

American, actually...did a couple years of college radio; Went to college (or "Uni" as some of the Brits like to say) for radio/mass communication, but not exactly working in that field right now. I just like making stupid posts sometimes.
