I don't know why they don't just put out all/most of their songs a cappella in one set or at least an internet download.

Agreed, I'd kill for that.  Evil
It just seems like as more of these a cappella mixes come out, we are all asking, "HOW in the world was this sitting in the can all this time?!"

There's a demo/rehearsal version somewhere, that is slightly speeded up or something. Seem to remember it needed processing before it matched the key of the released version.

There's also an alternate version floating around on You Tube that is pretty good too.

That's just a live version from the first Box Set Tour.

Ahh, ok. I thought an alternate studio version would've been on my radar...

Doesn't sound like a live version to em; it sounds like maybe a sound check or something, but Carl, Al and Matt(I think it's Matt) do a wonderful job, and the tune has a different "feel" to it. Check it out for yourself; just go to you tube and search for it under alternate version.

I'm fairly certain those are from the rehearsals at Red Barn before the tour started.

Yeah, that's the rehearsal -- Carl, Al, Matt and Bruce, no Mike. The whole rehearsal's definitely worth listening to.

So I had to search for it!  I don't understand not posting a youtube link when you have it....       http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXwNfIDtRJs

Here's the Alternate version; Carl, Al, and likely Matt.

Andrew, is the entire Red Barn rehearsal available anywhere? Would love to hear it; loved that tour and the Alternate All This is That.

It's been widely bootlegged -- usually paired with a soundboard recording of the Paramount Theatre show from that tour. Search for "Beach Boys Paramount Rehearsal" (without quotes) and you should get it. It's Carl, Al, Bruce, Matt and (I think -- may be misremembering) Billy H, Ed Carter and Mike Kowalski, running through:
01. Add Some Music To Your Day
02. Vegatables (Instrumentation)
03. Vegatables
04. Take A Load Off Your Feet
05. Surfer Girl (Instrumentation)
06. Surfer Girl
07. Hushabye
08. Disney Girls
09. Their Hearts Were Full Of Spring
10. Wonderful
11. All This Is That
12. Caroline, No
13. You Still Believe In Me

This rehearsal clip sounds like Joe Thomas produced it with the terribly dated early 90s Yamaha DX keyboard sounds and cheesy sax solo. Just needs some DI'd nylon acoustic guitars too.
Ugh. Vocals sound killer though!

Been a while since I heard that. Sounds a little sped up, but.. I'm reminded of how incredible Matt Jardine's falsetto was in the blend at that time.

The rehearsals are excellent. The quality of the Paramount Theatre show is great too - except for some of Mike's vocals which are often painfully reedy.

I have the unplugged show from Pa., but not the Paramount. Wish I had the rehearsals.

There is an a cappella cover version of "All This Is That" on one of the Net Sounds compilations -- Net Sounds 3, I believe...by Duophonic, a couple of guys from northern New Jersey. It includes an additional verse they wrote in memory of Carl. (They recorded it shortly after he died.)
