How about prank calls? Has the era of the classic prank call ended due to advancements in technology such as call display etc.

Sometimes people used to call radio stations and TV shows to add some comic relief. Now, because of delay on broadcasts (genereally 7 seconds I think) we rarely get treats of funny phone callers who used to add so much to the humor of shows. Sometimes when callers would chime in with comments that seemed slightly left of absurd, the host would see the comedic value and have a chuckle as well. Other times the host would get annoyed and get upset by the hilarity of the caller.

Don Taylor on TEAM 1040 had a bit of a giggle at first but then appeared to get irked by the monotony of the calls.

On another radio station, Dan Russell on Sportstalk received what very well may have been a prank call. However, when the caller alluded to him as his at times nickname "the Beard", he acted like he know nothing of the matter. This may have been his best attempt to difuse the call.
https://www.youtube....h?v=6nVuIQ314Cw That call actually has a bit of timeliness to it as we ready the popluar Stanley Cup Playoffs and beards become fashionable.

Sometimes prank calls also get made to multiple hosts. Rick Ball, the excellent broadcaster on TEAM 1040 received what was possibly a prank as did columnist/broadcaster Tony Gallagher. https://www.youtube....h?v=IXVxWNeEBHI

What are some of the best prank calls you have heard and how do these ones compare?

No discussion of prank calls is complete without mentioning "The Tube Bar" tape, which I think every college campus at one time had a poor-quality dubbed tape circulating. Pure, raw genius. I eventually bought the "remaster" when someone put it out on CD around '93, but it lost some of the originals character while adding some missing calls.

It inspired the Simpsons and Moe's Bar, it inspired an indie film, etc. Classic.

The names they ask for are great, but some of Red's reactions are pure genius, especially when the caller gets him so worked up he starts spitting and mumbling his words.

Classic moment: Red gets so fired up, he tries to threaten the caller by saying something like he'll carve the "Zorro" Z marks on his ass if he ever catches him, and instead of "two Z's" he mumbles "I'll put the boo-stigs on ya...(stammers)...both cheeks..."

Essential listening.

The Jerky Boys before they went Hollywood had some classic calls as well, like the bits about selling Civil War memorabilia.

Arguably both great talk show hosts. Maybe Gallagher had the edge in column wrting. Bruce did well as a manager in the entertainment world, but one might say that The GMan subtly does a fine job in this arena as well....
