Phil Ramone's passing comes less than 48 hours after the death of veteran session guitarist Hugh McCracken. They worked together many times. It's pretty difficult to put together a list of the thirty or forty best rock or pop albums in history that doesn't have records with both their names in the credits. May both rest in peace.

R.I.P.

Didn't he co-produce "What love can do" with Brian?

Just one or two days ago Gordon Stoker of the Jordanaires died as well.

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Ramone was either 72, 79 or 82, depending on who you believe!

From Facebook:

Over the course of my career, Phil Ramone and I crossed paths many times. A few years ago, Phil produced the GRAMMY MusicCares "Person of the Year" tribute to me and I was blown away by all the work he did and the great artists he put together to sing my songs that night.

Phil was a great guy with a big heart and he produced some of my very favorite records. One of the highlights of my career was when I asked Phil to produce two tracks for the "What Love Can Do" album a few years back. It was a thrill watching him in the studio do his thing and he did such a great job.

I am thankful that I worked with Phil and got to know him - he was a special guy. I wish the best for his family during this sad time.

Love and Mercy, Brian
