(sung to a Kokomo/Summer in Paradise style melody/production) Back in the year of twenty twelve, I got the old band off the shelf, thought it would be fun, fun, fun to reunite, all shake hands and no more fight; spread the good vibrations all across the land, to surfer girls and boys and all shake hands, sing the old songs and do it again, SMiLe onstage and pretend we're friends; did a new album successful show after show, and that's why god made the radio, but when the tour was over all the fights resumed, and our p.r. wasn't autotuned, cause it's not.....(chorus) paradise, paradise, no, it's not so nice, cause we ended, we ended our summer in paradise......the fans wanted us to stay on tour, forever and ever now that's for sure, keep on singing songs of yesterday, songs of summer nights and summer days, but the mike and bruce show couldn't wait, Rhonda and wendy at the seaworld gate, gotta get back to anytown usa, all the casinos we have yet to play, instead of (chorus) paradise, paradise....etc

I have deep uncontrollable fears that this piece of lyricism will turn up on the next BBs album.

Writing parodies is fine but its hard to read when its all on one line, every so often you should press enter, maybe set the text to centre, Mike would tell you "don't be a fool", setting out rhyme needs basic rules, even when writing Good Vibrations, Mike used basic punctuation, I'm sorry if you think I'm being a nag, 'cos doing things properly can be a drag, but I'm no stranger to the pen, just press "modify" and try again.

A resonance chimes within my soul,
Enlightenment is my spiritual goal,
Emotions arise, my aura is flowing,
Pastural fields of Elysium glowing,
Nothing can sooth me, Karma 'yond reach
Til me n' my girl make out on the beach…

Excellent thread, this.

Bit of a literary exploration of the mind, soul, and true persona of Michael Edward Love.

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

I am still looking for his opus magnum, the never-released 'Levitation Song'. The central chant is rumoured to be:

"Hop hop hop hop hop hop hop hop hop hop hop hop hop hop"

which is pretty adventurous to these ears.

What ever happened to the follow-up to SIP called "masterpiece" that Mike told goldmine about in 1992?

I guess a release would have brought Mike many lawsuits from real BBs fans, on the grounds of violent physical abuse (e.g. tinnitus).

Hm. Yes. McCarney never wrote: Yesterday I Was A Day Tripper.

(I mean: the originality factor is about the same.)

Yeah but Hari wrote "This Guitar Can't Keep From Crying" and "Here Comes The Moon".

Thank you! I made an effort to update Mike's revisionism on 'Brian's Back' ('not to mention ole' Pet Sounds'), with a much more improbable storyline.

I think that was an incidental music track by George Martin for the Yellow Submarine movie.

IIRC, Return to Pepperland is an unreleased song from Paul, mid-80's. I think Phil Ramone produced it.

Since someone brought up the topic of Mike Love lyrics, I was reminded of this rare find that I uncovered some time back, the proposed lyrics for Smile's uncompleted 'The Elements' track:

THE ELEMENTS
Music by B. Wilson
Lyrics by M. Love

Fire, water, earth, and air,
Elements are everywhere.
On the beach, your car, and pad,
They’re not just a passing fad.
All around the world you see
The Elements in harmony.

The wind blows through her long blonde hair,
I smell her perfume in the air.
A girl like her is cool to find-
Mother Nature blows my mind.

Old Yeller is my shovel ride.
We’re tearin’ down the countryside.
Like Mother Earth, it moves my soul,
When I’m moving the earth, and digging a hole.

Fire hot as the summer sun,
Makes me think of fun fun fun.
Here comes that shiny red fire truck,
Guess that flame’s run out of luck.

Like waves that come a-crashin’ down,
Near sunny Honolulu town,
Water’s cooling down the heat,
A glass of it just can’t be beat.

Fire, water, earth, and air,
Elements are every where,
At the local high school hop,
The drive-in and the record shop.
All around the world you see
The Elements in Harmony.

Coulda been a hit.
