was a little bored and noodling around last night and finally put together a new playlist.  I titled it Pacific Coast Highway (because that's what the Beach Boys' 2012 album should have been titled, darn it).

1. TWGMTR
2. Isn't It Time (album version)
3. Beaches In Mind
4. Do It Again (2012)
5. Waves Of Love
6. Morning Beat
7. Spring Vacation
8. Daybreak Over The Ocean
9. Mexican Girl
10. San Simeon
11. Forever She'll Be My Surfer Girl
12. Shelter
13. Cool Head, Warm Heart
14. Don't Fight The Sea
15. MAD
16. Going Home
17. Think About The Days
18. Southern California
19. FTTBA
20. PCH
21. Summer's Gone

I haven't had time to listen all the way through yet. What strikes me, though, as being the difference between the best material on TLOS and TWGMTR (or what even raises the weaker material on TWGMTR) are the vocals.  As much as I love Brian's band, they just can't sing like the Beach Boys. No one can.

Even the Beach Boys can't sing like the Beach Boys

That's Why Joe Used The Autotune

(because that's what the Beach Boys' 2012 album should have been titled, darn it).

Funny.  I'm still biased to the voices of Mike, Al and Bruce in 1965, 1985, 1992 or 2012 over those of anybody else.

Not sure I understand what you mean.

simple--I don't care the year or their corresponding age, I prefer the vocals of the Beach Boys over those of anybody else.  FWIW, I have no intent of restarting the old Autotune debate. That was never my point here.

Great playlist of the 21st century BBs/BW.

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

Thanks.  Some tweaking may be in order after a  full listen...

Absolutely agreed.

On another note, is Do It Again (2012) available for purchase anywhere besides the special Wal-Mart book thing?  Can't find this track anywhere.

Not that I know of, although you can get the live C50 tour version on the "Isn't It Time" single EP on itunes

Thanks, I have that EP.  I kept seeing the special release booklet at Wal-Mart but never bought it because I figured the track would be released digitally sometime.  Guess I was wrong.

It might end up on MIC as 21st century BBs material.

I'm flying from Melbourne, Australia  today, landing in LA, staying in Redondo Beach for the night then driving up the PCH for a few days heading to San Fran. My playlist for the drive is very similar but includes some older stuff as well. Can't wait !

Bonus track on the Japanese release of TWGMTR.

Gee that's convenient.

EDIT: Looks like the 'zinepack is still available at Walmart.com.

southbay, do you like Al's "PT Cruiser"? It's a little older but I used it on a similar comp I made last year. It fit nicely this way:

- "Spring Vacation"
- "PT Cruiser"
- "That's Why God Made The Radio"

Why not put a mash-up of Hey Little Cobra and Little GTO in there instead? I know a lot of Al's songs are derivative but PT Cruiser takes the prize.

Yeah, I'm thinking maybe Drivin' might work.  My biggest problem in choosing the Jardine tracks was trying to pick something without guest vocailsts, nearly impossible.  Even Drivin' has America stuck in the middle
