I will bring some schlitz beer, since it was a very popular beer in the 1960s.

Anyone remember Hamm's Beer?

*Sound of tom-tom drums*

From the land of sky blue waters
From the land of pines lofty balsams
Comes the beer refreshing
Hamm's the beer refreshing.

Remember the Hamms beer bear?

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears, and she's already working on my brain. I only looked in her eyes, but I picked up something I just can't explain. I, I bet I know what she’s like, and I can feel how right she’d be for me. It’s weird how she comes in so strong, and I wonder what she’s picking up from me. I hope it’s good, good, good, good vibrations, yeah!!

I don't drink, is it cool if I shoot up heroin? I don't have enough needles to go around, but if a few people are willing to share...

Hey if somebody wants to bring coke we can do speedballs!

About a decade ago, a nearby liquor store sold 30-packs of cans for some obscenely low price: I want to say $12 or so. For a few weeks it was my friends' and my go-to, drunken twenty-somethings that we were. Then we realized the consequences on one's innards for drinking that much bad beer. Lesson learned ... and if I dare by vulgar, smelled!

Wait are you a (fellow) Minnesotan? Did I know that? Nice.

At least times have changed for our local beers now, with some truly good ones.

They must be local microbrews; there aren't any good national brands situated in Minnesota

There aren't many good national brands from anywhere! But yeah, in the past decade especially Minnesota has really started making some good ones. In fact, in the past three or our years, we've had a few really good brewpubs opening up in the Mpls-St Paul area. The granddaddy is Schell's, which has its roots in traditional German-American brewing. Solid but not anything unusual. Summit has been going for a couple decades now and is best known for its EPA. But in the past few years, some really hoppy, typically IPAs have been coming out and are quite good. Surly is my favorite, especially their "Furious." But we've also got Lift Bridge, Fulton, Harriet, Indeed!, Northbound, Herkimers, 612 Brew, Brau Bros, for a few breweries or brewpubs. I know there are others outstate, as well, such as in and near Duluth.

Then of course there are the older ones, most of which are closed down or brewed by others. Grain Belt, now owned and still sold by Schell's. Schmidt? I think they are closed. I don't even know what all else. But as with most places nationwide, I think the beers pretty much sucked in the age of the macros.

I haven't had the coffee stuff: as a rule, I stay away from most heavily flavored beers. Coffee, oatmeal, berries...nah. I don't mind if there is a hint or aroma of citrus or whatever, but when something is infused or really strong, I tend not to be a fan. I hope you'll find and try Furious, though, so you can believe in Surly! (I like Cynic, too, which does have a floral/citrus aroma btw)
