Hard to pick... probably Pink Floyd's The Wall or In Concert or the SMiLE Sessions by the Boys.
I listened to The Wall the other day on Spotify. It's amazing! My favourite Pink floyd album (i've only heard DSOTM, WYWH, TW and some of Animals). It's quickly becoming one of my top 10 favourite albums. I hope to buy it on CD soon.

Makes me wish all doubles had been laid out with that sort of thing in mind .... Actually: The Mothers: Freak Out sorta is....
Curiously, that album was released as a single in the UK.
Three tracks----"Go Cry On Someone Else's Shoulder", "How Could I Be Such A Fool" and "Anyway The Wind Blows"----were left off the new side one, which was still a full half-hour of "songs", unprecedented for a pop LP. This meant that UK fans first heard the last two of those omitted songs when they were rearranged for inclusion on
Cruisin'...
I don't think I've ever heard the first song!
For side two, "Trouble Every Day" was cut short with a fade during the harmonica solo but the rest was included in its entirety.
Oh, and this is my candidate for the best double album ever:

Either "Eat a Peach" by the Allmans (only because I don't think Fillmore should count, even though Peach includes a couple live tracks) or Blood Sugar Sex Magik by the Chili Peppers. I didn't even realize it was a double album until I saw it on someone else's list! Yes, now they're a crappy band writing bad retreads of their prior hits, but this album strikes me as incredibly important. As important as The White Album? Maybe not, but at least it doesn't have Rocky Raccoon and Bungalow Bill.

I'm intrigued by this record. Things I heard about it were mixed, gonna go to the local site & swallow it in one session without stopping.

I love the album.
RR, would you please please please write up your thoughts on each song while listening? I am very interested in your reaction to the music.

Few double albums are "perfect" but maybe that's the fun.
ELECTRIC LADYLAND - Jimi Hendrix Experience
EXILE ON MAIN ST - The Rolling Stones
THE BEATLES
BLONDE ON BLONDE - Bob Dylan
GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD - Elton
SIGN O' THE TIMES - Prince
EAT A PEACH - The Allman Bros
FROM MEMPHIS TO VEGAS/FROM VEGAS TO MEMPHIS - Elvis
(The Elvis and Allman albums are studio/live splits more or less.)
It's regrettable The Beach Boys never released a studio double. Putting out one album of oldies in 1976 (Call that half 15 BIG ONES) along with say a GROUP THERAPY of newies ("Good Timin", "It's OK", "River Song", "Had to Phone Ya" etc) would have been nice.

Only bought a handful of double albums back in the LP era, but a few I still come back to today on CD are Stevie Wonder's Songs in the key of life and Todd Rundgren's Somehing Anything. Quadrphenia was a great album also.

It took a few years to totally grow on me but I'd now say Genesis 'The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway'. It's the best Genesis album they ever did and is now one of my all time favourite albums.

Not really a useful question, as it assumes double albums all have the same point to make. There isn't really a difference in comparing doubles and singles. But I'd mention this as being one of the more satisfying:
It has focus and a point and structure. It tells a story, at least thematically.
