That's about as original as The Rip Chords.

If only they played Monterey Pop they could've remained relevant.

lol every single melody of that song sounded like something else. bruno mars' marry you for the verse in particular.  probably shouldn't admit digging that song, but it's hard to resist.  anyway, at least these guys seem to be having fun.

I think these guys mean well, and want to pay tribute to the Beach Boys' early sound, and are probably cool guys in their everyday lives, but this stuff is way too contrived and clean-sounding.  Sampled a few tracks and was struck by how similar sounding they were in their production.

They even have a song called "Summer of Love" on their album. Smiley

The production sounds more like 90s/TWGMTR than classic-era BB's, tho, maybe that's why it sounds so cheesy. I'll take the Explorers Club first album, all day, every day.

It's an OK track, nothing more or less. Doesn't come close to reaching into the "second level" of emotion that alliows BW's best pre-PS material (to) work its particular magic.

If you want an imitator who's actually managing to get close to that neighborhood, you've got to go with "Time Will Tell" from Flash Cadillac:

Like BW, Kris Moe lets the way the arrangement plays out do the job of raising the emotional stakes.

the only artists that I think actually sound like the Beach Boys are the ones that aren't trying. Grand Funk's "Locomotion", for instance. and Madonna's first album sounds just like BB'85 (although it came out in 83 so I guess the Beach Boys sound like Madonna?)

Upside:  Cool sound, I got Good Vibes from it (pun forcefully intended).  Reminded me a lot of the 'Mints, and that's a really good thing!  They easily coulda done something like this.

Downside:  The video, although loaded with quite a bit of eye-candy for us guys, made me feel like I was watching a very long tv commercial from the 80s.  From the very first seconds I was expecting a voice-over and a camera zoom onto a can of pop or something.
