Hey, Ovi, I'm not trying to get into the lame Blur v. Oasis thing, but had to ask if you're a Blur fan?  I've been listening to a ton of Damon Albarn and saw your post.  For my money he's the most talented musician of his time, with a range going from pop/rock to opera and film scores, all of it wonderful.  In a league of talent with the Beatles and Paul McCartney, really, not that the comparisons are necessary.  I feel he's probably tried to push himself outside of pop/rock a bit more than Paul, too.  It's a shame he's barely known in the US and doesn't seem to be viewed as much of a talent, though I find Dr. Dee and his cowritten score for Ravenous to be especially moving.  Perhaps people are suspicious of his gift for melody, since many music fans have a snobbishness toward anything which seems "pop."  Either way, it is their loss.  He's given us an incredible body of work which keeps growing.

Hi. Blur is one of those bands that I really need to get into as soon as possible, as I haven't heard anything from them. Song #2 gets constant play at one club I frequent, but I doubt that's really representative for their work (although I do think it is a great song).

Yes indeed----excellent stuff. I've often listened to John's album Tribute on YouTube. It's pretty good all the way through.

Just noticed KarlheinzKlopweiser's listening choice----I love The Red Shoes!

Good to know, I was actually thinking of getting the whole album.

Oh, wow, I love that song! I remember someone posted a youtube of it with Brian's voiceover intro. I thought it were indeed the BBs! If only... The harmonies on "won't you please fawn over me" are just outta this world, also the "Mike" "bum-bum" bits. If the whole album's like that, it's gonna be a real treat for me.

Remember this band from my list of songs with "The Beach Boys" in the lyrics, in this case in the title as well:

That thread is one of my favorites, I frequently revisit it. This song I gave a household name "longintro". Yet it ends very quickly.

Thanks! It's gone a bit dead now after the recent bonanza but it will be back in action again soon, no doubt. ;=)

Was Syd Barrett - The Madcap Laughs (caught part of Neutral Milk Hotel's Dog Headed Boy on an indie net station & that reminded me of Syd - due to listening to Oh Lord earlier (Brian & Dennis) was suddenly very aware Jeff Mangum goes into shouty Brian 'style' in places.) Dark Globe still emotionally stabs me right in the heart.
Followed by The Velvet Underground - The Gift because the guitar texture & buried spoken words of Syd's No Man's Land reminded me of it (sending yourself in the post is a very, very bad idea)

right now thanks to a random oldies station: The Carpenters - Calling Occupants Of Interplanetary Craft. (love this & there's a gorgeous happy hardcore remix on youtube, that just makes me giddily happy)
