I'm sorry that all your work was lost guys Sad This is one of the reasons why I think just sucking it up and aiming for better Beach Boys coverage on Wikipedia is the way to go however. If you guys fear for your information being reverted, deemed non-notable, etc. etc., I wouldn't worry too much. As a collective whole, I'm sure we could scrounge up some sources to keep our articles right where they are.

For example, In the Back of My Mind and Had to Phone Ya both had their articles deleted a few years back, but I uncovered a few sources that spoke about them, plugged in the info and hey presto, they're back up and running! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_the_Back_of_My_Mind http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Had_To_Phone_Ya

Don't it look pretty ^_^

Anyway, I'm thinking of starting a WikiProject in order to significantly standardise and improve coverage on Wikipedia. Don't be too afraid of Wikipedia's rules, I think we're a smart enough bunch and we can get this ball rolling  Cool

I think it's just a horrible coincidence that wikkii.com is down. to treat that as being indicative that we should all just suck it up and go back to wikipedia is not the right way to go. most big fandoms have wikis of their own because they need them.

it's not like we can turn the Hal Blaine page on wikipedia into listing the date of every Beach Boys song he played on. the wikipedia community as a whole will think that's too much unnecessary info. and they'd be right, wikipedia is not the place for things like that. but a beach boys wiki would be.

I fully agree here. No-One on Wikipedia will probably want song lyrics one every track, but a BB Wiki would be a good excuse to do so (for instance)

The best way to crate a wiki is http://www.wikia.com/Wikia There's a wiki about the Beach Boys but you can also start another one ! It's http://beachboys.wikia.com/wiki/The_Beach_Boys_Wiki . It's not a beautiful one. Wikia needs you !

I wish my message would not be considered as a spam. I try to do my best on these forums, and I practise my English.

I get that, and it's definitely something that adds a huge amount of allure to a wiki project so we can get into the nitty gritty. But I don't think that we should just (further) neglect wikipedia either because we can't do things like that. It's a site that offers 90% of what we need, and since those pages get huge exposure, I think we owe it to the band to make sure their story is told straight. Having such a honed focus on Pet Sounds/Good Vibes and a complete disregard on everything else that surrounds isn't cool, and it's something we can easily remedy if we pitch together imo.

On that note, in an aim to extend 70s BW coverage, here's the Spring page I worked on formatting today: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spring_(American_band) and here's the debut album's page, something I worked on from scratch: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spring_(album)

You've contrived to leave off the closing bracket on both those links, ergo, they're not taking you directly to the page. Just sayin'.

Also, when you get to the page, there are inaccuracies: "Honeycomb" has never been booted, much less released officially, and it's been established for many years that while Brian was initially enthusiastic about Spring, his interest in the album soon waned and it ended up being produced by Sandler and Desper (as correctly stated on the album page - where btw, you've mangled the quote I got from SWD: what he actually said was "5% of Brian Wilson..." etc.). Now fixed.

Thanks for that! There must be a problem with urls which feature a closing bracket at the end, I've turned the entire urls into hyperlinks to fix the problem.

Thanks for tidying up those inaccuracies! I appreciate it greatly. I don't pretend to be an expert on these things, which is why I'm linking the articles I touch up here - in addition to being human, I've only been a hardcore fan about a year - I'm bound to make mistakes  Sad but at least we're getting somewhere  Cheesy

God bless you for putting your hard work on the line. Wouldn't shock the hell out of me if the album page gets shut down sooner or later.

Thanks for your support runners! ^_^ it's been lingering in the back of my mind that those kind of shenanigans could take place, but the fact is, most of the pages that have been shut down over the years have been done so because there has been no effort put in to reference the information. Basically, as long as we've got an allmusic/Rolling Stone/Pitchfork etc. mentioning the song/album, and a tidbit of information that's been published in a book (say Carlin's, Badman's, stuff you find when searching on http://www.books.google.com, etc.), or Andrew's "Bellagio" website, we should be alright in adding this sort of coverage. It'd be even more safe if we got a Wikigroup up and running with people who are wanting to improve the coverage of the Beach Boys on Wikipedia because that helps articles being deleted because they are "unlikely to ever grow beyond a stub". But to do something like that, we are going to need people on board.

Not sure I really want to put time into this again since it was down for over 2 weeks, and who knows how reliable it is.
