Okay, someone brought it up, and due to recent debates about "The Elements" I think it may be time

I'm working on a very "Smile-esque" menu system, I figure we compile articles, photos, etc... I don't think we could do the music, but we could always include specific
places to find the clips if we can't.

Andrew has his amazing sessionography, mixed with TSS we should be able to get a lot from that. I think we should try to do this guys!

I'm working on some programming tonight, i'll keep you all updated!

What we do is simple:

Require the user to have a copy of TSS and have two modes to the program: 5-CD or 2-CD.

Have it scan for (or direct it to) the proper files.

Base the interface off of that.

There are at least 10 or 11 CDs worth of Smile material.

Yeah but this appears to be for TSS.

I'm doing a TSS install, it will basically lock the music playing if it can't find TSS burned from iTunes (it can check)
Because some people downloaded it and some people have physical, so this will please both.
As far as boots go, I have some plans for that... Don't worry Smiley

I'm thinking it'll be a page with...

Song, lyrics, known pieces, a short paragraph about what it was ment for and where it would've most likely gone and why
pictures from the sessions, the sesson sheets (which I have many of) and any videos.
also, information about booted sessions for the songs will be included, telling you where you can hear the materal (unless we find out we can use it... How did the original do it?)

It had lots of .m3u playlist files, so when you clicked, say, the Heroes & Villains verse session, it had an icon which opened the playlist of all materials from that session in iTunes. Or, the song (annoyingly split into verse/chorus/bridge/verse or whatever, for the fanmixing element). It had it's own files native to the 'program', ie it didn't search your computer for them.

I mean, isn't that illegal? Spreading the files?

Maybe it got around it with not actually having the complete song - like I said, it was split up into sections. Most of the sessions were too.

Of course, it might have been so low-key and specialised there wasn't much desire to shut it down.

Should we do that or not? I mean, include the non SS files?

Okay so now you can insert the disks from the box to verify them, now I just need help with info, pics, etc.

If you have ANYTHING worth including, please send it in a PM, the first song is H&V, and I'm planing on doing all the songs before I start the sessions.

I had Project SMiLE and I think it's a really cool concept. The great idea behind only having sections is to be able to piece your own versions of those songs together with an audio editor, and not having to seperate the tracks yourself. Project SMiLE was probably a godsend when it was released, and with further technology (and with the advent of better sources for much of this material) it would be so much easier to roll your own.

This link is from my own research into the matter, with a little help from whatever was already online. It should be of some assistance.

EDIT: This is just about finished short of accounting for whatever The Smile Sessions added to the pile. I'm able to amend those sections later.

Thanks guys, sounds good! I'm planning on having 2 sections, A TSS "path" and a "Roll your own path"

The TSS path is basically a guide while you listen to the tracks and sessions, and the "Sessions" tabs in the songs have all the pieces known.

Here's a quick look at the interface, the H and V lyrics are wrong just ignore that, testing the TSS support would be helpful!

http://www.sendspace.com/file/t2ivrj

Virus software may go crazy, I'm not sure, but I'd assume you guys can trust me.

If you guys use SendSpace, I'd recommend using Firefox with NoScript. It'll block the popups.

Okay I've decided how this is going to work

3 main sections...

-Songs
-Sessions
-History

Songs will feature full lyrics, the ability to link with the Smile Sessions disks, artwork for the songs, and session pictures.
BUT best of all, any non SS music, and any videos related to the songs. The musical sections created for the songs will have a page with
the source, date of recording, and title of the section.

Sessions is by far the most ambitious Smile project i've seen in a while. I'm going to attempt to compile EVERY available
-Date
-Recording
-Pictures from the session
-Session Worksheet
available from the dates and place them in chronological order, (the Songs section breaks them up by song already).
This will be the bulk of the work for this, luckily the dates and session info have been provided (massive credit given!)

History will compile the articles, ads, and basically anything else about Smile in as close to chronological order as possible.

I think this is very possible, and could potentially be the easiest way to get as much Smile as possible on a clean interface (it'll all still be included in folders like the classic Project Smile!)

So, who's on board?

I'm thinking maybe just put the contents of each date into a folder then have the program open it, from a page showing the info from that thread.

Anything more would take TONS of time.

Okay so I'm going to need help identifying the different takes and such, is there anyone who could help me compile the day by day folders? I'm doing it song by song, and Wind Chimes is first, I think it's right, but I can't seem to identify what is on that excellent list, so I'm going to need help with that...

I've gotten a few PM's regarding this, It's really taking off on my end right now, getting complete MONTHS done now, Putting them in order, it's going to be by folder, and not in the program, that's more like a little runner thing...

Anyway, contrary to the name, this is really a project that tries to create a day-by-day Smile Sessions experience, so that's what I'm doing, I'm not including any OFFICIALLY released content, but It'll be listed in the "Sessions Catalog" (GV box, TSS, etc. anything 100% illegal is out)

I'm moving along, it most likely will not be lossless, because it's already going to be incredibly large, and with sessions of this quality, it's not worth it.

I'm down to the latter Vega-Tables Sessions, trying to represent each segment from each day as well as possible, after this, I'm gathering all my pictures from the sessions and matching them with the days!

I just downloaded the first version from sendspace and I'm loving it!
It's great that you can just insert a disc. I had a Daniel Johnston in my cd-drive and it started playing!
Funny stuff!

Project Smile was heaven, this is going to be hardcore heaven!

Wow guys, listening to all these tapes, I just learned that Marilyn sings on Vega-Tables!!!!!

At first I thought it was Al or Carl sped up (These are all... non-legit... haha) but Brian's voice wasn't sped up, and then I heard "mare" and I was like "WOW I NEVER HEARD HER!!!!"

Marilyn never sounded creepier than on "Vega-Tables". I don't think that made the final mix, thank God.
