I'd been prevaricating for a while about where to start this topic, whether it should be here or in "General Music Discussion". But at the end of the day (sometimes literally) church bells serve an extramusical purpose.

I'd been looking for a video of the bells in a particular church when I bumped into this Sunday morning peal at St Vitus Cathedral in Prague:

Since then I've found others, to be posted in due course. All contributions welcome, folks. Wink

This is the next one I found, from a city we've actually visited, Cologne in Germany, where Nico was born. The Cathedral's wiki page includes fascinating information about the bells and their history. What a stupendous wall of sound! Roll Eyes

This one is closer to home. Listening to it, beginning with silence and ending with silence, I can't help feeling it would be equally at home as a minimal music process in the "Ambient Music" topic.

We visited Vienna some years ago and attended our best-ever performance of Mozart's Requiem as part of a church service. A wonderful vibrant city, well worth a second visit.

We attended Urbi et Orbi in St Peter's Square in 1985, so we must have heard these magnificent bells chiming:

Never been to Heilbronn (I had to look it up). That's a part of Germany we have yet to visit. Looks like a nice place.
