The Rolling Stones have just released their new single, "Doom And Gloom" off their upcoming 50th anniversary compilation imaginatively titled GRRR!.  Also available to download off of iTunes.  Decent mid-tempo rocker.  Jagger's in good voice.  Nothing overly remarkable about it but not bad.  Better than their instantly forgettable track "Don't Stop" off their 40th anniversary compilation, Forty Licks.

Looking forward to both the vinyl and the 5 CD version of this. Looks like it was very nicely compiled.

I'm enjoying it, even though it kind of feels like something that The Hives would've written trying to copy The Stones, rather than a Rolling Stones song.

The video is very nice indeed. I'm not very impressed by the song. It's ok but sounds like what you've heard a billion times before. I don't think they put too much work/thought into it. I'm glad the Beach Boys did better in that aspect imo

a diseased bunch of mo'fos if there ever was one… their beauty is so awesome that listening to them at their best is like being in some vast dream cathedral decorated with a thousand gleaming American pop culture icons.

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Cool lyric video. Awful lyrics. Ho-hum music.

wow, this is pretty cool. can't see myself listening to it more than a few times, but it rocks and Jagger's voice sounds cool, very young. It does indeed sound like a modern band trying to sound like the Stones, but that's cool. if they made a whole album like this I think it would do pretty well.

didn't watch the video (kept it open in another tab) because I don't like my first impression of a song being attached to a video.

They still rock. Too bad they kinda forgot to write the song. Stones on autopilot, but it's always nice to hear them groove in their own lopsided way.

I was actually surprised by how good this song is because the Forty Licks tracks and A Bigger Bang were quite dissapointing and boring. As good as "Doom & Gloom" is, most Stones fans are shoked by the ticket prices for the London dates and it's really a shame. For me, I would like to see Bill Wyman getting back with them.

I thought A Bigger Bang was quite enjoyable, and miles better than anything they've done since Tattoo You.  But I agree the new songs on Forty Licks were very dull.

What about "Bridges To Babylon?"

It's a common knee-jerk reaction to dismiss the Stones' "later output" after the classic/vintage years but the truth is while they never did deliver another strong album of consistent great songs, they did release a good smattering of truly great songs throughout that time.

"Steel Wheels" as an album does nothing for me, but "Almost Hear You Sigh" is a keeper.  "Voodoo Lounge" is an uneven retro album that contains a lot of filler but one can't ignore true gems like "Love Is Strong" and "Thru and Thru."  "Bridges to Babylon" was essentially two solo albums meshed into one Stones album that sort of worked.  Regardless of your issues with the production songs like "Saint of Me" and "Out of Control" "How Can I Stop" "Thief In The Night" are worthy to be up on the same level as anything from the Exile period.
