Regardless of what's on it and how it sounds and what's planned for the future, why do I get the feeling that the end result will STILL be:

Dear Capitol,

I wish to register a complaint.

There are some teasing posts on the Hoff board.  Truth or lies?  Someone spilling the beans befoe they should? Presumably to be followed by denial...  We've had that before.  Someone talking out of their ass? Or not?

Since it's career spanning, will it have any tracks from Summer in Paradise?
One can only guess what they'll be.

...and those notes simply were not on the Cotton Fields mono master. They obviously still exist on the multitracks.

Beg to differ, but they did and they do - check out the original 45.

Well, of course they're on the 45 otherwise we wouldn't be having this discussion! I was under the impression that when they went to compile the GV box, they were missing. I think I read that in Mark or Alan's thread? A quick search throws up a post.....

I assume its not only my problem when, on my GV Box Set, the first couple of chords/notes are missing from cottonfields...

Correct - they're all like that. It was noted at the time in the fan mags, the response from one of the compilers being "that's how it is on the master".

So... if the notes were on the original 45, they had to be on the master as well, otherwise how could we have noticed they were missing when we heard the box ?

I should have probably said 'not there any more', that's true. Wonder why they've been snipped..... if they were snipped?

I hope -- assuming they include all the unreleased material from the Good Vibes box -- they fix the speed of "It's Over Now."

Anyone else thinking that all the two-fer bonus tracks will be on the box set? I say this as there are no bonus tracks on the new remasters.

Just read this after going to Smilin' Ed's link to the Hoff:

"BTW, a Japanese Blu-Spec double-CD of PACIFIC OCEAN BLUE/BAMBU will be released on July 4th and features a 2012 remastering job."

Never heard about this. Anybody here pick up this release yet?

I, I bet I know what she’s like, and I can feel how right she’d be for me. It’s weird how she comes in so strong, and I wonder what she’s picking up from me. I hope it’s good, good, good, good vibrations, yeah!!

Saw it on eBay, all of the non-Brian solo stuff was remastered.

Yeah. I've thought the exact same thing.

People are bitching that there are no bonus tracks on these new remasters, but frankly, I find bonus tracks just get in the way of the actual album. I'll be very surprised if their not in the boxset.

Got this recently, I've not listened to the discs yet, it seems to be the same release as the Legacy edition but in mini LP packaging.  With my hi-fi set up (and ears) I can't hear difference between 'normal' CDs and the 'Blu Spec' ones.  Not sure on the 2012 remastering, can't remember that being referred to on the packaging.  Most of it is in Japanese however....

Back on topic with the box set whilst I would love to see a 'rarities/unreleased' only set I'm happy that the band is getting a (hopefully) 'definitive' box set across 6 discs.

Can't wait to see content/packaging!!!  As soon as details emerge my partner will get the Xmas present hints :D

Johnny Cash is getting a new box set of all his Columbia albums.... Makes the theoretical BBs album idea look workable - it'd be fewer albums and arguably just as saleable.

I know it now looks like we're getting a six CD set but this shows an alternate path that coulda been travelled; or perhaps even a complementary path...

I'm not particularly obsessed with whether this box set arrives or not. But if it is released, those audiophiles on the forum will undoubtedly tell us whether there are static crackles, clipping distortion, "Loudness Wars" mastering or mastering-releated digital drop-outs. I await the verdict from the "experts".

But don't expect Capitol to correct these problems if they occur. There were two very noticeable problems with the previous box set("Good Vibrations:30 Years of The Beach Boys"): Two nasty speed fluctuations on "Do You Like Worms?" & lopping off several notes of the guitar intro on the single version of "Cottonfields". Capitol never corrected either problem.

In any event, the 12 album reissues, the two hits compilations & the box set are apparently the last hurrah for Beach Boys archival projects. I hope not, but Mr.Doe has implied that the well will soon run dry.

As for the problem that I encountered on the Japan CD of "Summer Days...and Summer Nights!", at least it occurred on a song and mix that can be obtained on another Capitol CD; a CD that is already in my collection.

Gotta admire the dude's consistency. Gloomy, gloomier and gloomiest - man could mess up a wet dream.  Grin

Since the GV box is going out of print and the 2fer bonus tracks will become unavailable, it's a safe bet most or all of the bonus tracks on those CD's will be appear on the new box.  With 6 CD's to fill, how much previously unavailable complete songs can they find to fill those?  The answer is . . . they can't, so the question is what they will fill up the rest of the box with.  I suspect:  session excerpts and instrumental takes, alternate mixes, vocals only tracks, and LIVE material.

If they decided to cover the 1969-1979 era in detail, it would be very easy to locate complete, unreleased songs.

Well if the box set is to be career spanning you'd have to expect there would be some "SMiLE" in there.  I'd like to hear that mix of CIFOTM that was slated for "Hawthorne" but didn't make the cut on last year's "SMiLE" box.

I hope that doesn't happen. I have those tracks already, as I'm sure most folk here do also. I'd rather have material that's fresh to our ears, even if it's limited to different (vintage) mixes of known tracks etc.

I assumed it will be a mixture of things that we all already own and things that have never been released (through official channels, anyway), so it's perfectly possible to include some or all of those bonus tracks along with things that we don't have.
