If it doesn't include "wild honey" in stereo I'll download it illegally out of anger

Love to hear that whole album in stereo!  Hoping that will come!

I think our best bet for box set news are AGDs cryptic hints.  He will know what's coming when it comes together.  Obviously, he can't divulge full details or he'd never be intrusted with advance info again.
Took me a while to realize that.

Okay, dream time.

I'd love for a box of boxes, which might include but not be limited to (note that this little lot might have overlap and could be augmented with more material; note also that I've employed a fair bit of cut-and-paste from existing online sources, so please forgive any inconsistencies in formatting):

Box one (6 discs): Remastered Surfin' Safari album, with bonus tracks including the material once slated for Brad's First Wave collection and much, much more:

Disc One
1. Surfin' Safari (Brian Wilson/Mike Love)
.....................

Please feel free to add…

They release anything like that, you won't believe the bitching you'll hear from me.
why is that?

Because any of us who have collected even a 'basic' set of boots could put together a much more interesting collection.

Dang, they are most likely in the midst of still putting this set together. Let's be patient.

It be a disaster to get 17 versions/takes/mixes of "Surfin" when there are 100's of unreleased songs/musical pieces/alternate versions. Besides Carnegie Hall, New York, November 23, 1972, I have little, little interest in this early material save for what Alan Boyd or AGD would consider essential.

Cripies, this was a jokey post outlining just a few discs out of a dream box set of box sets, a few cut-&-paste tracklists from known boots with an invitation to add more. Took several minutes, perhaps less to throw together…

I should have set a limit, eg 160 discs, not a disc more.    Roll Eyes

The funny thing is I secretly crave to listen to those 17 different versions of "Surfin" Wink

6 discs allows for more rarities amongst the "career spanning" tracks we've already bought a million times before, so that's good, I guess. Would be even better if it was 6 discs of just rare and unreleased. Then I'd really get a woody.

It says "career-spanning", not "woodys for geeks".  Grin

Consider: the 1993 box was 4CDs (plus the 'boot' disc). There hasn't been a whole 80-minute CD of new releases since then, much less two, so I'm guessing there's going to be ample archive material. Whether or not it'll all be new to the likes of us is, of course, another thing entirely, and something I wouldn't care to speculate on.

I have a good idea of what this box will include, thanks to common sence and our friend AGD's very interesting posts.

It's gonna be quite what you'd expect.
We will get rarities though....

It's going to essentially state the case that The Beach Boys are the best fucking thing ever, isn't it? Which means all the hits. I reckon it'll be a supercharged version of the Good Vibrations boxset - we have another disc worth of material to fill and only two or three more compulsory things to put in after Kokomo....

I'm not particularly obsessed with whether this box set arrives or not. But if it is released, those audiophiles on the forum will undoubtedly tell us whether there are static crackles, clipping distortion, "Loudness Wars" mastering or mastering-releated digital drop-outs. I await the verdict from the "experts".

But don't expect Capitol to correct these problems if they occur. There were two very noticeable problems with the previous box set("Good Vibrations:30 Years of The Beach Boys"): Two nasty speed fluctuations on "Do You Like Worms?" & lopping off several notes of the guitar intro on the single version of "Cottonfields". Capitol never corrected either problem.

In any event, the 12 album reissues, the two hits compilations & the box set are apparently the last hurrah for Beach Boys archival projects. I hope not, but Mr.Doe has implied that the well will soon run dry.

As for the problem that I encountered on the Japan CD of "Summer Days...and Summer Nights!", at least it occurred on a song and mix that can be obtained on another Capitol CD; a CD that is already in my collection.

From what I understand, that was purely to do with the sources - Worms was sourced from a dodgy acetate and thus wobbled (and it has been corrected, if you ever got TSS), and those notes simply were not on the Cotton Fields mono master. They obviously still exist on the multitracks.

Correct, and those guitar notes are also there on "Beach Boys Rarities" & in the stereo remix on "Hawthorne,Ca."

Yes, "Worms" was corrected in "the Smile Sessions" box, but never corrected in later production runs of "Good Vibrations:30 Years of The Beach Boys". And by the way, those two releases of "Do You Like Worms" differ in several ways. Each contains material that is not in the other, but, the configuration of segments heard in "the Smile Sessions" is a shorter version than the one on "Good Vibrations:30 Years of The Beach Boys".
