Obviously, there's a ton of Brian on the album (not that I'm complaining at all!) and I think a lot of it is to compensate for where Carl would've sang.

I'm curious what parts of what songs everyone thinks would've been sung by Carl if he were still with us. And if Dennis' vocals had recovered at all, where he would've fit in.

Dennis on Pacific Coast Highway. Carl would have been all over that album!

Yeah, Carl would have been front and center!  I remember reading somewhere (Rolling Stone) where Brian commented that as he and Al have aged their vocal range has lowered a notch and it now pretty much where Carl would have been in the mix.  If he had been around...I'd have to believe that Brian would have taken fewer leads.

Carl: bridge to Isn't it time. Chorus of Strange world and chorus of shelter. Chorus of Spring vacation. Main vocal on chorus to beaches in mind. Probably part of the chorus to bill and sue. Verse of TWGMTR?

It sounds like Jeff Fosky was doing an impersonation of Carl's vocal phrasing when he sings "celebration" in the middle-eight of the title track.

I've tried imagining Carl singing on many of the songs.  Especially the chorus to "Shelter".

For Dennis to be alive today, he would have had to clean up his lifestyle. If he had, my guess is his vocal would have come on a song of his own, figuring a clean Dennis would have been able to come up with one song that would make the cut.

I agree. When I listen to that song, I can't help but imagine how Carl would have sounded singing the chorus. In fact I think Carl would have sung all of Foskett's parts plus taken over some leads. With Dennis, I can imagine him singing lead on a song that would fit in perfectly with the suite at the end and for backing vocals, he would add to the blend.

Well, one can dream...   Smiley

If carl never died this album would've come out 15 years ago.
