I've made up the semi-final set list for the "50 Sides of the Beach Boys" show on Aug. 3 and here's the breakdown of the set distribution, album by album:

Number of songs to be played from each album:
SURFIN' SAFARI - 2
SURFIN' USA - 3 (maybe 4)
SURFER GIRL - 1
LITTLE DEUCE COUPE - 1
SHUT DOWN VOL. 2 - 2
ALL SUMMER LONG - 1
CONCERT! - 1
CHRISTMAS ALBUM - 0
TODAY - 2
SUMMER DAYS (AND SUMMER NIGHTS) - 3
PARTY! - 1
PET SOUNDS - 4
SMILEY SMILE - 3
WILD HONEY - 3
FRIENDS - 2
20/20 - 3
SUNFLOWER - 2
SURF'S UP - 3
CARL & THE PASSIONS - 1
HOLLAND - 3
15 BIG ONES - 2
PACIFIC OCEAN BLUE - 1
LOVE YOU - 2
M.I.U. - 0
L.A. (LIGHT ALBUM) - 1
BEACH BOYS '85 - 1
STILL CRUISIN' - 1
SUMMER IN PARADISE - 1

You should so a quick head count to see how many of those also featured on Stars & Stripes!

Anyone not sold on the bundle, buy it - even without the bonus CD, it's a steal. Wish I could be there. Wouldn't it be nice is someone ran a slave from the board ? Er, for reference purposes only, of course.  Roll Eyes

Already have two of the bundle's elements but will miss out on the third "exclusive"  Sad

As for slaves, haven't they been abolished?  Grin

We've got a separate list for those who just want to get the bonus CD...shoot me an e-mail about that.  We're going to try to figure something out for folks that want to get that as a standalone.

Last call for these.  The publisher is shipping the books tomorrow so they will be here for the show.  If you want one of these packages, let me know immediately, either via PM on Smiley Smile board, or via e-mail at adamghost@aol.com.  Thanks and see you at the show!!

And besides the "party" tracks and unreleased rarities it looks like we may be including on the AMCB PARTY bonus CD a new studio recording of the band (with Boyd on lead vocals) on a song you'll all appreciate, I think.

Depends...are you going to be at the show?  Wink

Erik:  Our inclusion from SUMMER IN PARADISE should make no one in any way unhappy.  And I loathe that album. So make of that what you will.

We tracked the bulk of "AMCB Party" today.  It is both really cool, and in parts totally hysterical.  A lot of in-jokes for Beach Boys fans.  I don't want to give away the track list, but if someone wants to e-mail me I'll give it to you.  Suffice to say...Beach Boys fans will be delighted and amused.  And it will contain close to 20 tracks.  The deluxe packages are pretty much gone (I might be able to squeeze one more in if someone e-mails me, like, now), but we're going to start taking orders for people who just want the "Party" CD as a standalone, so if you're interested, shoot me an e-mail.

We're still frantically trying to get the whole 50 Sides of the Beach Boys set together for Friday...50 Beach Boys songs at night, and making a whole new bonus album by day....we're nuts!

Final bump for the show tonight.  50 Beach Boys songs will be played, front to back, from 8 p.m.-1 a.m., by Adam Marsland's Chaos Band at:
Brennan's Pub
4089 Lincoln Blvd.
Marina Del Rey CA
Friday, August 3.
admission is free.  Alan Boyd, John Perry, Rob Z (as Mike Love) and Jorge Barba (percussion) will be augmenting the Chaos Band lineup, along with about 15 guest lead vocalists.

Don't want to give away the whole set list, but among the songs we'll be performing:  "Don't Talk (Put Your Head On My Shoulder)", "Solar System," "Heroes and Villains," "Aren't You Glad," "The Trader" and "The Lonely Sea."

Here was the set.  Lead vocalists in parens; guest vocalists full name after the dash.

Personnel were myself (guitar/keys); Evie Sands (guitar); Teresa Cowles (bass); Rob Z; Kurt Medlin (drums); Alan Boyd (keyboards); John Perry (melodica); Jorge Barba (percussion/drums).  Me, Evie, Teresa, Kurt and Jorge were on the entire show, with Alan, John and Rob coming on and off periodically.  Everyone sang except Kurt.

It went great.  We only whiffed on a few of 'em.  The Pet Sounds section was particularly cool, as was Steve G.'s John Cale-esque deconstruction of "Kokomo."  Some of the show was filmed, so we'll see what pops up on youtube.

Terrific stuff, everybody! Had a real great time, anybody that sticks "The Baker Man" in a set is GOOD PEOPLE. I find this to be axiomatic.

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Here's the first video of the show...probably the only time "The Baker Man" has ever been performed live.  Steve Moramarco of Abe Lincoln Story does the honors:

They're not horribly far off, both in length and inclusion of lesser-known stuff. Certainly not as in-depth, but it never was going to be.

Technology decided to conspire against me last night. Despite plugging in the charger for my decent HD cam, when I whipped it out - nothing. Dead. So much for thoughts of snagging tasty excerpts. So I pull out the ol' phone and at least that one had the decency to record a few minutes before dying on your jump at the end of Heroes and Villains:

http://youtu.be/ZF8X4RGPKjM
with Alan Boyd on lead vocals and apparently your enchanted shirt providing a light source.
