I think it's perfect.

Ok cool, thanks!

One of my pet peeves about double tracked vocals is that I like them centered, or at least not split up, because you kinda lose the intention of meshing the two tracks together to create a fuller vocal sound - but the way that you did it was really tasteful and served to make a better mix all around.

Ahh, yeah I agree man. Originally I had them panned center but somehow they ended up about 30% to the left & right. Still enough to give it that "double tracked" sound. I can only pan stuff out fully if it's tracked 2x on each side. And even then I only go to about 75% each way.

Where's FOTM at?? I'm about to knock out some harmonies for this...

Updated version with a great sax part by Don't Back Down in the chorus + harmonies in the 2nd verse. (nod to Egohanger for the "dit dit" idea)

If u dig the harms, lmk and I can break them down for us all to take part in. I think there's enough for like 5 people.

My lord, those harmonies are freaking incredible!!!!!!!!! I got a "Don't Talk unused vocal snippet" vibe from the stacked thing you did near the end of the second verse. Prime-era Beach Boys style. Genius.

Thanks dude! Def some "Don't Talk" chord action going on there! I used the lead in from Let Him Run Wild in the beginning haha.

I'd love to pitch in on this! Awesome idea.

Instruments: Tenor Sax, Ukulele, Bass, Keys
Vocals: I'm in the mid/bass range of Mike and Dennis and can do a falsetto

Let me know!

Wanna add some live sax to Stevie??

Yes! I would love to

Great! It's in the key of G. Maybe some root notes in the chorus? Or you could just ad lib a few takes and I could pull from those. Whatever you're feeling.

You can download it here: http://soundcloud.com/smile-a-d/stevie-rough-mix-no-background

Sure! I'll try both methods and see what I can give you with that. I'm digging the cover so far!

Hey man - wanna add some uke chord strums in the 2nd chorus??

Okay, so I just broke down the harmonies for Stevie.

Ego - Brian (http://www.sendspace.com/file/wdft80)

Austin - Carl (http://www.sendspace.com/file/2ad7y5)

Rab2591 - Al (http://www.sendspace.com/file/906oqr)

seltaeb1012002 - Brian 2

Billy C - Carl 2 (http://www.sendspace.com/file/37jgkz)

Here's a reference with all of the harmonies:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/yvmqyf

...and lastly here's the instrumental download (with a great new Uke part by Don't Back Down on the 2nd chorus, btw).

http://soundcloud.com/smile-a-d/stevie-instrumental-1

The vocal part should match up with the instrumental exactly when lined up in your DAW. Any questions, or if anyone can't do their part for some reason, just give me a shout.

If anyone wants to add extra handclaps, feel free to record it and shoot it over to me. (They're on the 2nd pre-chorus).

Listened to the instrumental track...what I'm gonna do is load the instrumental track into Audition, do a scratch lead as a guide, and then do my harmony part over it. I'll erase my lead before I mix it down.

edit

Ummm...the part I'm supposed to do appears to be blank...? All I hear is silence.

edit x2

Okay, nvm...it's a few seconds at the end. Okay, I think I know what I'm gonna do. Don't be surprised if some extra parts end up on there, as I have a couple of ideas...

Holy balls, I go to bed and wake up to this?! Amazing stuff, my man. If someone doesn't chip in a part, I'll happily take one of the lower ones - my falsetto is somewhat lacking, as you could hear Tongue

For shits and grins, I just did a lead, trying to imitate Brian's shouty voice. If anyone's interested I'll post it. Again, this is just a guide vocal for me so I know where to add the backups.

This is NOT intended to replace what was already done (unless you all think it should); this is my scratch lead so I have a reference point to add my backup part. Just figured it'd be interesting.

I'm going to a record show today, I'll try to analyze and record my part when I get back. I love the progress that is being made here!

Nice!! What kind of mic do you record with? Did you lay down the Carl 2 part?

Hypehat's lead is already set in stone, but still cool to listen to!

Sweet! Enjoy the record show. It's been a while since I've been to a record show. Lookin' forward to hearing your high part!

Wow sounds great!! But it's missing a low end!!

Mike Love Harms: http://www.sendspace.com/file/bdn6qv

I also added a higher counter falsetto, I hope you all like it!

Also, I get a real "Let Him Run Wild" vibe from this, so I added some little LHRW guitar parts, and in the 2nd verse, some uke parts like on my old cover of LHRW.

LHRW Guitar Parts: http://www.sendspace.com/file/wlz5s9

Hope you dig, feel free to edit either of the parts any way you want!
If you want to add the LHRW to the 2nd verse only, it should be easy so go ahead!

Going to lay down the vocal today or tomorrow. As far as mic, actually, due to financial issues right now I have not been able to buy an actual mic so I've been using the built-in one!

What are we calling this album?

I was thinking something like:

"A World Of Harmony"
"Forever"
"The Smile You Send Out"
"Friends" (I know, but It makes sense!)

Egohanger's Brian falsetto:

1) I didn't EQ or add any reverb. Didn't wanna mess with the blend you're gonna create. Therefore, it comes in bright and dry.

2)When mixing down and saving, somehow the silence got edited so it starts with my vocal - hope it's easy for you to drop it in where it needs to be. If not, I can try to save it again with the long gap of silence intact.

Are requests being made for more covers for the album? I was thinking "Amusement Parks, U.S.A" since
that one isn't covered too often
