I thought it was would be fun and informative (for my wife) to put together a CD for each band-member that "show-cased" their voice from an early (or first) lead and it's changing or use-of over the years.

The "rules" are:
- One should try to pick tracks that feature the particular guy's voice primarily, rather then a song that share's the lead (as part of the reason for the mix cd's is to help my wife recognize each voice and be able to connect a name/face to a particular voice).
- No more then one track from each album (if really desired, out-takes/unreleased tracks are fine to be included, either along with a song from the actual album most associated with it , or instead)
-The focus is the voice, not their song-writing, though often its nice to go with their own song's anyway, if they sing it.
- Sometimes I have gone for the more "interesting" or unique vocal rather then a great song.

There way be a few people who might like to have an attempt at this along with me.
Just to start things off, here's my Carl mix CD that we listened to today in the car:

1. Pom-Pom Play Girl (not a lot of choice for the early songs)
2. All Dressed up For School
3. Girl Don't Tell Me
4. God Only Knows
5. Good Vibrations
6. With Me Tonight
7. Darlin'
8. Friends
9. I can Hear Music
10. Our Sweet Love
11. Feel Flows
12. You Need A Mess Of Help To Stand Alone (my least favourite Carl vocal)
13. Only With You
14. Talk to Me
15. Let us go on This Way
16. Sweet Sunday kind love
17. Good Timin'
18. Keepin' the Summer Alive
19. Where I Belong
20. Problem Child
21. Lahaina Aloha  (had to pick one with Mike somewhere, and this track is a real beauty)
22. I Wish For You

Nice list, but no Time To Get Alone or Trader ? Also, with his chorus tag, Carl puts the soul into Kokomo !

It's true, I could have included Kokomo... It's actually on my Mike one that I just finished, but could easily be on both.
Trader could replace Only with You, depends on one's own taste. I couldn't skip I Can Hear Music for the 20/20 selection.

Mine would be shorter, emphasizing just what I consider the highlights of each guy. Brian is hard to do because his early voice and later voice are so drastically different. I'm going to leave  "California Dreamin'" off of Carl's list,  but should note that I think Carl's vocal on the second verse is freaking stellar.

Mike:
Little Deuce Coupe
Fun, Fun, Fun
I Get Around
Do It Again
It's OK
California Saga:California

Brian:
Warmth of the Sun
Don't Worry Baby
Please Let Me Wonder
You're So Good To Me
Caroline, No
Surf's Up
Love and Mercy (from the Roxy - Nice showcase of his later voice)
Pacific Coast Highway

Carl:
Girl Don't Tell Me
God Only Knows
Good Vibrations
I Can Hear Music
The Trader
Where I Belong
Soul Searchin'

Dennis:
Little Bird
Slip On Through
Forever
Cuddle Up
River Song
Rainbows

Al:
Help Me, Rhonda
Then I Kissed Her
Cottonfields
California Dreamin'
Somewhere Near Japan (All the guys sound wonderful on this song...but that last verse with Al is really great.."now she's drifting on some chinese junk..."
From There To Back Again

I love this idea. The cover art can mimic the famous simultaneous Kiss solo albums in the late 70s.... instead of a Kiss four-pack we can have a BB six-pack (gotta include Bruce!)

Good thread, Zargo! I like to do various mixtures from various BBs records! I'll start with Al:

Al's wonderful tracklist:
1) Christmas Day
2) Blowin' In the Wind
3) Help Me, Rhonda
4) Crack At Your Love
5) Cottonfields
6) The Times They Are A-Changin'
7) Be Here in the Morning
Cool Our Team
9) Honkin' Down the Highway
10) PT Cruiser
11) School Day
12) Come Go With Me
13) Lookin' At Tomorrow
14) Lady Lynda
15) You Still Believe In Me (I love both v-ns whether Brian's or this gorgeous rendition by Al)
16) Vega-Tables
17) Surfer Girl (I know I've already chosen YSBIM from In Concert but I couldn't help bringing it on this list. It's just marvelous!)
18) Looking Down The Coast
19) I Know There's An Answer (I think his vocals are the best section of this song)
20) From There To Back Again

Nice list! Many the same as mine, but mine is more chronological:

1. Christmas Day
2. Help me Rhonda (LP version)
3. Then I Kissed her
4. Vegetables (SMILE version)
5. Cotton-fields (LP version)
6. Flip-Flop flying in an airplane
7. Lookin' at tomorrow
8. California Saga (beaks of eagles)
9. You Still believe in me (live, 73)
10. Susie Cincinatti
11. Honkin' down the Highway
12. Belles of Christmas
13. Lady Lynda

Just a question, and while I'll admit I'm being a smart ass I'm not doing it in a condescending way.

Did your wife REQUEST that you make her this cd, or are you just trying to get her to understand that they're worship-worthy like we all know they are?

I'm not married, but I can't even envision a world where any woman would let me make her an entire cd of different guys in the same band singing fairly obscure songs, and then expecting her to learn who's who.

Haha, well my wife is generally happy to humour me, and I have most control of the CD player in the car, because she knows I am more passionate about music then I am.  She enjoys anything which is catchy/easy to sing along too, so I make sure I include a reasonable number in that category.
She'll only get shirty if I play too many "hard to listen to" ones (i.e. a reasonable proportion of the 70's stuff, particularly the slower tracks). I am not sure how proficient she will be at being able to work out who is singing what from now on, but I think it'll help!

It's tempting to, but I went for "Belles of Christmas" from the same era, as it's such an unusual "michael-esque" vocal. I do think Peggy Sue is a bit underrated, it has a great lead, as you point out, and also the backing vocals are quite interesting too.

Here is the Bruce/Dennis track-list, which i can just fit on to one CD:

Bruce:

1. Down Under
2. Don't Run Away
3. Four Strong Winds
4. Deidre (i broke my rule and had the three leads from the one album, because there's so few of his leads to pick from)
5. Tears in the Morning
6. At my Window
7. Disney Girls
8. Rendezvous
9. Endless Harmony
10. She believes in Love Again
11. Let's go to Heaven tonight (anyone know when this was recorded? Catchy number!)
12. Slow Summer Dancin'

Dennis:

1. My Miss America
2. Surfer's Rule
3. This Car of Mine edit: from original mistake of listing "our car club"
4. The Wanderer
5. Do you Wanna Dance
6. Be Still
7. Never Learn not to Love
8. Forever
9. Cuddle Up
10. In the Still of the Night
11. Mona
12. River Song
13. My Diane
14. Angel Come Home
15. You are so Beautiful

I love your comps, Zargo. Keep 'em coming. They're fun aren't they, especially for the car!

I hope you don't mind me throwing in my two cents, but....take off "River Song" (which ended up being a Dennis solo release) and insert "The Nearest Faraway Place" right after "Four Strong Winds". What'd you think? police

Good call... and Brian too. Was thinking "this car of mine" and typed "our car club" by mistake. Always preoccupied with the latter song I guess, cos it's so funky!
I made it *the* team song back in January 2007, when I was part of a Christian outreach for 10 days in a seaside town. Along with Hawaii and Surfer's Rule  Cool

No can do, Sheriff John - It's a pretty instrumental that showcasing Bruce's writing,  but as a CD showcasing his voice, TNFP doesn't add much to the scene!
Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated.

Here's Michael, a longer CD, perhaps unsurprisingly.
I didn't see a great deal of point including lot's of songs from the early surfin' era, because they all came out very quickly and his vocal's were pretty similar.

1. Surfin' Safari
2. Cherry Cherry Coupe
3. Drive-In
4. Kiss me Baby (obviously a lot of Brian, but still a strong representative of Mike's singing)
5. California Girls
6. Here Today
7. Gettin' Hungry
8. Aren't you Glad
9. Meant for You
10. All I Want to Do
11. All I Wanna Do
12. Student Demonstration Time
13. California saga - Big Sur
14. Everyone's in Love with You
15. Airplane
16. Belles of France
17. Sumahama
18. Some of Your Love
19. Runnin' All Round the World
20. Wrinkles
21. Getcha Back
22. Kokomo
23. Summer in Paradise
24. Glow Crescent Glow
25. Spring Vacation

Sorry for an off-top question but what is "Christian outreach"? And Our Car Club is indeed very funky.

Ok. Now here we go with Brian:

1. Judy
2. The Baker Man
3. Don't Worry Baby
4. Good to My Baby (I mostly like Brian's vocs than Mike's there)
5. Farmer's Daughter
6. God Only Knows (just because I rather prefer THIS v-n than PS track with Carl on leads)
7. Good Time
8. Winter Symphony
9. Sloop John B
10. Surfer Moon
11. Spirit of America
12. Walk on By
13. You Still Believe in Me (I know, it's the 2nd song from the same album but how to pass by a haunting "Iiii wanna cry"?)
14. Wonderful (Smile, 2011)
15. Surf's Up (only Brian vocals v-n)
16. I'd Love Just Once to See You
17. Add Some Music to Your Day (because imo Brian's bit is the most groundbreaking and beautiful in the song)
18. Oh Darlin (alternate take)
19. Heroes & Villains
20. Little Saint Nick (alternate with "Drivin'" song music)
21. Transcendental Meditation
22. Back Home
23. Take a Load Off Your Feet
24. San Francisco
25. Life is For the Living (his vocals sound unique to me, i.e. jazzy)
26. We'll Run Away (I enjoy weird segues, such as 25->26 tracks. It's jolly entertaining)
27. Love & Mercy
28. Match Point of Our Love
29. I'm So Lonely
30. The Warmth of the Sun (from IJWMFTT)
31. Joy to the World
32. Summertime
33. Cabin Essence (BWPS)
34. Happy Days
35. Saturday Morning in the City
36. Caroline, No (live)
37. Be My Baby (Roxy Theatre)
38. Strange World
39. You've Lost That Loving Feeling
40. Love Ya (SI)
41. The Letter
42. Going Home

"Christian outreach" refers to "reaching out" to the community to share the gospel. In this instance it was a children's holiday program.

Nice list! Some of the songs are not familiar to me though, as the the only released Brian solo albums I have are his self-titled and Imagination. Am interested in hearing 'that lucky old' sun as people speak highly of it, but have never been interested in BWPS.

My list:

1. Cuckoo Clock
2. Surfer Girl
3. Ballad of ol' Betsy
4. In my Room (live)
5. Don't Worry Baby
6. She knows me too Well
7. You're so good to me
8. You still believe in Me
9. Heroes and Villians
10. I'd love just once to see you
11. Busy doing nothing
12. Good Time
13. Goin' to the Chapel
14. Solar System
15. Matchpoint of our Love
16. I'm so Lonely
17. In my Car
18. Night-time
19. Smart Girls (yeaaahh!  Evil)
20. South American
21. Private life of Bill and Sue
