Heritage Auctions has some new BBs stuff for sale, one of which is this 1968 note Dennis wrote to Murry:

Wouldn't it have been easier if he just sent Murry an email?  Seems like a waste of paper.

I hope he didn't let Charlie Manson get his hands on it.

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears, and she's already working on my brain. I only looked in her eyes, but I picked up something I just can't explain. I, I bet I know what she’s like, and I can feel how right she’d be for me. It’s weird how she comes in so strong, and I wonder what she’s picking up from me. I hope it’s good, good, good, good vibrations, yeah!!

You know I hate to be a downer, but Murry's response to 1968 letter seems to be dated in 1965. Controlling Brian wasn't enough, he just had to control time... Anyway, this is already the best thread I've ever seen on this board!

You know the second I uploaded, I knew somebody's response would be that I forgot to change the date. I'm a lazy, lazy Murry. I'm flatting.

It would be like Murry to prepare a form response to a future letdown from his family, tho.

Nah, balls. Or bollocks for the subjects who may be lurking. Smiley

It also looks like Peter Griffin's chin...

So true! In fact, that explains the whole thing, don't you change the date!

This letter is so revealing into the bizarre psychology of the Wilson family at the time... despite that Dennis was a 23-year old rich, famous (though at the time of dwindling fame), and independent adult/rock star, he still had to write a promissory type note to his dad for borrowing the camera. I’ll bet this was written at Murry’s insistence to Dennis (the Menace). I can’t image Carl having to have written a similar note in these circumstances.

Totally something that might be expected at age 13, but just a bit unthinkable and seemingly a bit demeaning of someone who’s an adult, let alone a famous adult celebrity. Obviously to Murry, Dennis was still just Dennis the screwup kid, and that is probably all he’d ever be (Dennis was always said to have had a complex about not pleasing his dad, and this letter is a bit indicative of that, don’t you guys think?) – still, Dennis was a guy who was months away from composing stuff like Be With Me.

I guess if I put it in perspective, it might be like today finding a note that Corey Haim had to write to his parents in order to borrow something in the mid 1990s (which might not seem too weird considering his then-life circumstances), but an early 1968 Dennis wasn’t thought of as quite so unreliable as a 1990s drug addict like Haim, was he?

The Murry letter is just a joke paraphrasing some of his other literary works, not actually him. Dan Rather got fired over it, actually. Something about the kerning.

If someone prints it out and sticks it on ebay, I am gonna slap them SO HARD.

Interesting how the "joke" Murry could be as convincing as the real one! Good job there.

This thread - particularly the two (so far) fake entries in the correspondence - is nothing thought of extraordinary. Bravo!
